I like to download a specific program from iplayer radio and play in car. Phone is iphone 7 and I play it through the iplayer radio app (but downloaded not streaming)
1. I can listen to this through my phone loudspeaker
2. I can listen to it through wired headphones
3. I can listed to it through bluetooth headphones
4. I can listen to it through the car bluetooth audio
5. I cannot listen to it when the USB lightning cable is plugged into it unless I select bluetooth.
6. For any other music, podcasts, number 5 above works fine.
Anyone any idea why this might be? It was the same on the Civic and now on the BMW.
The car screen shows the podcast selected and playing, with the podcast time counting along, but no sound.
Anyone else listed to iplayer radio downloads and experience similar?

Have you tried turning the iphone volume up?
|
Yip - phone volume only affects things when listening to Bluetooth.

IIRC I had similar issue trying to play my Sony MP3 via my PC although music on a stick worked fine.
Concluded it was a USB limitation and made sure all MP music was on the PC's hard drive.
These days I stream from phone using Bluetooth.

Is the USB just for charging and storage device acces (such as USB stick)?
The iPhone built-in storage will not mount as a volume.
While it is capable of sending audio down the USB/lightning not many cars support it.

Its a non problem, bluetooth is doing the job perfectly
|
Yeah it does, unless my battery is flat or dying.
Then I need to plug it in. And then the BMW seems to not offer the Bluetooth option when selecting media (though I might need to check this again)
|
It will if you plug it into a 12v socket USB charger adaptor.
Or get a proper Android phone.
BMW is weird, they don't support iPhones properly but offer Apple Car play, yet they support Android phones perfectly but won't offer Android auto.
