Having seen it a couple of times, and being berthed behind it in Valetta today, I googled how much it costs to live on the cruise liner "The World". A 3 bed 3400sq ft condo-suite is around $10m. Doh! A studio about the size of the kids' playroom is $700k. Double doh! You have to be able to show a net worth over $5m. Triple doh! 20 degrees and blue sky - felt like a lovely summer's day in Scotland! Was nice in Naples, and very much like home in Genoa and Marseilles a few days ago. Chilling out at sea tomorrow then Barcelona and home Friday. Always like stopping at Malta - today's the first time I've used the 1€ lift up to the town centre - gaffer point-blank refused to walk up the hill! Reply to this message | Report message

Well we took self same lift down today as we went for the ferry to the three cities. We had a free unused return lift pass you could have used. Thats another two euros you'll never see again! Reply to this message | Report message

Tom there are indeed many Scots dictionaries. Citing an "English" one to tell a Scot he is wrong to find Scotch a mildly inappropriate archaic term in this context isn't going to win you many friends over the border. Reply to this message | Report message

Firstly, it is South west RAILWAYS* but yes, clearly its part of their service, it was short on carriages and failed to stop as scheduled at Brookwood. *Rumour mill has it the new franchise is in trouble and they may do a stagecoach and walk away from it. Remember the old lift well, in the late 60s and early 70s. 3d a go, very rickety but deposited us near the Customs House for the dghajsas (had to look up the spelling) to get back to the ship parked in Grand Harbour. Quite a challenge after a night in the Gut while being watched by the shore patrol on the shoreside and the Officer of the Watch and Master at Arms on the ship. I live next to two of southern Englands premier canals, I have good friends with a 40 foot narrow boat, I worked on a lock for a while, Why on earth would I want to go on a canal holiday in the lands of the heathens.
