*If* you follow BA on Twitter it’s been advertised for weeks...there’s a few more planes being painted in liveries from the past as part of BAs centenary celebrations as well. That 747 will keep that livery until it’s retired (in 2023 I think!), so make your way to Hatton Cross and TBA (or is it K, I can’t remember...)

Better On A Camel.........

Several posts on pprune, and I believe a 737 will appear in the old BEA colours.....I’ve still got some old photos somewhere taken as a schoolboy of a Trident in BEA colours.

Pfft 737 in BEA (British Excuse for an Airline) red just aint right, has to be a trident, fond memories of working on them. Well until Captain Key spread one down the staines bypass.

My auld man worked for BEA in Ruislip in the early sixties.

A funny story....

I share the same name as my auld man. I was working in Sainsburys in Glasgow in 2007 and of course, had my name badge on with my full name.

An old man asked me about a product then looked at my badge and said many years ago I used to work with someone with that name. Where was that said I? BEA in Ruislip he replied......

Do BA still have any 737s?

The Red Square livery looked good on the Vanguard. Would be good to see Cambrian and BKS/Northeast too but probably a bit long removed from BA.

Why does it have to go to Ireland to be painted?

Can't we paint planes here?

Would be good to see it on their Leeds/Bradford service.

Used to be a Red Square liveried Viscount operating one or two of the London services c1966/7 shortly before the V806 series aircraft were handed over to British Air Services/BKS. Some stories say they were leased and BEA insisted on sending their own ground crew over from Manchester to service the aircraft during turnaround.

Let's hope they refurb the interior at the same time. All the BA A319s I've been on recently have been about as welcoming as a pit latrine. It's a pleasant surprise when you see a Qatar Airways plane at the gate and not BA.

Ryanair levels of service and money grubbing at BA prices.

I worked on the finance package for a company that made transfers (decals?) for civilian airliners - they were big stickers with the logos etc.

I was surprised to learn that seasonal airlines here (holiday jets etc.) went to Asia in the winter and had new logos stuck on with the process reversed in the summer when they came back here.

Hmmm not keen on BEA red square livery, much prefer the last speedjack

I like the" Fly the red square to Moscow" rather than the speedjack.

No indication of that.
Last one is the Negus scheme. Not sure if it is the British or British Airways version

I believe the Landor livery (replaced in ‘97 by the ‘Utopia’ World Images set, from which the current Chatham Docyard livery came. Originally just on Concorde IIRC) is next...

And, not that the 747 fleet is getting on a bit, but this plane has operated in this livery before!

Really the colour of a plane is not sort of thing that I would usually care about, but I do very well remember doing difficult jobs in difficult places and the feeling that once one climbed onto a BA jet it was almost as good as being home.

It was always such a relief to see one of their planes, and it was that livery I remember so well.

 RAF Tornado Flypast - Arctophile

"I never knew, no-one told me, I missed it. "

Has anyone told you about the flypast of the last of the RAF Tornados?

They flew over the Midlands today and the south of England tomorrow (20th). They are due over the M3/A303 junction at about 13;30.

Details on the RAF Marham Facebook page.

Did anyone see them today?
 RAF Tornado Flypast - Haywain

I'm within a couple of miles of one of those sites and was keeping a lookout, to no avail. Someone posted a video of them over Cranfield and I reckon I would have heard them.
 RAF Tornado Flypast - Manatee
I was at Halton by the airfield. I did see them but not very close, maybe a quarter of a mile away.

There was a surprising number of people there.
 RAF Tornado Flypast - Haywain
"I did see them but not very close, maybe a quarter of a mile away."

Similarly for us, parked a few hundred yards to the side of the Honington flightpath. Three aircraft came over a copse of trees and the spectacle was over in a couple of seconds. I thought we might get a bank and circuit, but they did a fly-past and straight down to Duxford. One friend didn't have time to turn his camera on, I got some tiny planes, but the other chap managed to get a few pics. I though it was difficult enough trying to photograph the Tour of Britain, but this was ridiculous!

Sometimes, I think you're better to forget looking through a viewfinder, and to simply enjoy what you are seeing.

Lots of limitations about how close and low they can get to people. Days of screaming low over people's heads are long gone.

As this has turned into a bit of a flypast thread, anyone watch the flypast in Sheffield? Both USAF and RAF were represented, looks quite busy in the nearby park.

They give gongs to such ephemeral people. Tony Foulds really deserves one for the simple, dignified act of dedication he has shown over the past decades.

...noisy morning for us. They formed up above us, and were waiting around flying circles for at least 10 minutes until they were ready to go.

Clear skies, and all easily identifiable (especially the Osprey ;-) )

If my watch was right, they were probably a few minutes late in Sheffield
