I occasionally watch Martin Lewis on the box, and this seems to have been a good outcome for all after scam adverts on Facebook last year.
Wonder how well it'll work in practice though.

He's apparently donated the £3m settlement to Citizens Advice for our scam awareness work:

Should alow us to raise profile and perhaps fund projects to work with scam victims. >>

I don't think he donated it as such, that was the agreement reached. As far as I am aware they never offered the money to him personally.
It's also about £2.5m, the other £500k is made up in free advertising.
All in all, an excellent piece of work for Facebook achieving a great deal of positive exposure for peanuts.

The title is a bit misleading, with respect facebook and martin lewis. They have in fact used him as a bit of free publicity
These bitcoins adds using fake sponsored web pages are widespread, being served by well know pages like the Daily Mail, the Express, and the Daily Mirror. A few even appeared on here. There have been several hilarious examples of the Daily Mail web site serving up fake bitcoin adds sponsored by the daily mirror.

Computer scams/fraud could be the biggest criminal activity carried out worldwide. In an age when we can put a man on the moon is it not possible to give computers "fingerprints" so that these cretins that commit computer crime/ fraud are traceable.

Most of the best, most widespread and lucrative scams are fostered at the personal level. Via the phone. The weak link, always has been and always will be is the human.

Problem is the short penalties for fraud.
Nick a million in a bank robbery and get 25 years.
Nick a million in online fraud and there aren't enough coppers trained to find you and if you slip up you'll probably only get 3 years.

If anyone is a cretin it is those who fall for these scams. All these frauds ultimately depend on the greed and gullibility of those who fall for them.
