I suspect you're being deliberately controversial here but....

Very few newborns are put up for immediate adoption in UK. Even where they're taken at birth from mothers who are considered incapable or dangerous there will be attempts to foster them out while trying to place them in the family or with Mother with a support package.

Those available for adoption tend to be older and it's likely that a disproportionate number will exhibit challenging behaviours and/or have health problems that affect their learning and development.

And that's before we enter the minefield of how race and ethnicity affect both adoptive parents and the children.

Comparing adoption with having help towards a child with at least some of your own biology is like comparing bananas with elephants.

Having two lots of relatives who've done both I can only agree. I would suggest that only a very small proportion of the population are equipped to deal with it.
