 Brake lights;not where you think they are. - carmalade
I have been following various new-ish models recently,and have noticed that the brake lights are not in the main rear light clusters on the body,but set low down on the bumper which makes them not very visible. Most annoying.

Except the mandatory high level brake light which is, how can I say this, always in the same place, in the middle and high level

French seem to have got carried away with light displays at the back --- There's one Renault whose high level brake light looks like a porn star's moustache when it lights up.

I didn't even know that porn star's moustaches lit up, but then I'm in rural Suffolk.

Ditto indicators on some models. I presume they all must be legal, but some are difficult to spot particularly when the brake lighrs are on at the same time.

I dislike those animated indicators on Audis and VWs. I don't notice them as quickly. (Design over function?)

I seem to think that the original Punto was the first car to have high level light clusters at the rear.

I often wondered how they got round the Construction & Use Regs, which were quite specific on lighting positions. Or maybe they had been amended by 1994 ?

IIRC they were mandated from the early nineties but not sure they were ever prohibited as they're auxiliary lights supplementing those on which C&U regs were specific.

I wasn't thinking of auxiliary lights, Brompy, but where the whole lighting pod fitted next to the rear window. No lights below that. The first Focus was the same.

My pet hate is indicators on the front of some cars - incorporated with other lights & often not at the wings but somewhere inwards. I thought indicators are supposed to be at the sides?

Adding daytime lights can be OK - indicators on, the DRLs dim BUT on some cars this does not happen.

Ahh right, I thought you meant the high level brake light in the rear window.

They don't work. With a range of 300 miles the battery went flat just as it left the earths atmosphere.

Yes I take a split second to register these animated lights. Mind you I remember my grandad complaining when flashing indicators became common that they were dangerous because everyone was used to the semaphore trafficators mounted in the pillar!
