 No sound on ipad - MD
Watching news vids, but sound won't play.. volume up, but still no go. What am I missing (apart from the obvious)!!

Don't know about iPads but my android tablet can be muted in the sound settings.

Are these videos you are watching locally in an app or via a website?

Sites like Youtube, Player, etc. have their own volumes controls as well as there being a volume control on the iPad itself.

And also check the mute switch (next to the vol up/down buttons) hasn't been accidentally turned on.
