This says a lot for modern car safety systems, and particularly modern infant seats. When I was a kid, we used to sit "loose" in the back of the car, as none of my dad's cars even had rear seat belts until I was in my early teens. An incident like this would have been curtains. It's fair to assume that anyone swigging vodka while driving a car has some sort of addiction problem. Alcoholism is an insidious disease. A woman we know has gone down this road over the past few years, and last year had a nasty accident (if not as spectacular as this) driving with her kids in the car while drunk. Thankfully only minor injuries all round, but she was arrested at the scene and it went to court where her license was taken away for several years. She was (when sober) a rational, intelligent, educated, respectable woman who was great with kids and fun to be around. Nowadays she is a sad, self obsessed, emotionally vacant wreck. She has no clue or care about what she did, and honestly believes she was the victim in the whole thing. The affect of alcohol abuse on people's attitude and perception of things is quite honestly staggering. Reply to this message | Report message

She was from Coventry I think, BT. I know the roundabout well enough but can't recall seeing anything about the accident at the time of it happening.
