The last car I saw this happening to was a 56 reg X5 on the M3, with the helpless owner/driver sitting on the bank smoking a cigarette and watching the destruction unfold.

A customer of mine had a brand new Guilietta a couple of years ago.

Had it's first service at main agent. the day after, on the M61 he noticed an orange spot on the floor by the pedals.....it grew.....he got out, on the hard shoulder, got his bits and pieces out and watched from a safe distance at it was totally consumed by fire.

I don't know what the outcome was with the agents but I would imagine his insurers would have had a good few words with them.
