I want to send various print outs and photo copies on a regular basis from the web to the USA.
I note that 45gsm A4 paper is available.
This would obviously save on postage but is it suitable for an inkjet printer or is it too flimsy?

( A non PC user in the USA and this is the only simply way to send stuff)

You need to check the printer specification. You should be able to find i on line. My Canon only supports 64 to 105 gm which I think would be fairly typical for a modest home inkjet printer.

Good point re checking the media specs CGN - my printer (Brother MFC-J5320DW) says 64-220gsm in the main cassette, so 45 would be pushing it.

I used to use 80gsm and got the occasional jam. I now use 90 and get no jams provided I fan the paper when I load it.

I wouldn't fancy using 45gsm but you can only try it - maybe only load one sheet at a time if it jams with a wodge in the cassette? Printers differ of course.

It might also differ in ink absorbency if it isn't described as inkject paper. It sounds as if it is suitable for typing on, with carbon copies, although I can't imagine there's much demand for that now.

If you use heavier paper you can print both sides and save weight that way - probably not very good on 45gsm.

Can you not email as a PDF and let them print it out themselves? Saves on the postage. And assumes they even want to print it out.

Print double sided and reduce the print size so you can get two A4 pages reduced to A5 on each side of a 80 gram sheet.

Thanks all.
I think I will go for printing double sided and check the " print through"
Printer works well if I jut load the paper cassette wthout any fanning of faffing about.
Any 80gsm paper seems to work OK.

One point to bear in mind is that if you are sending A4 sized letters to the USA they are charged as large letters with a minimum weight of 100 grams. 16 sheets of 80 gsm paper (normal printer paper) weighs 80 gram so there might in practice not be any saving in lighter paper unless you have more than around 16 sheets to send.

Really? They haven't got a PC friend to print it out? It sounds like an awful faff.

45 g paper just wont feed reliably in most printers its too flimsy.

But as suggested, printing on two sides of 80gsm paper is a weight saving.
