Lot's of celebs appear to have died this year, but that will increasingly be the case. Before the mid fifties the only celebrity's were film stars, then television and pop music exploded onto the scene and scores of new ones were created almost overnight. All being around the same age when they started, they are now growing old together and will obviously popping their clogs at about the same time. Reply to this message | Report message

That's what I picked up, after his death, from reading comments from people who had met him. I liked Prince's music. I enjoyed reading what Sinead O'Connor said to him when they met. Prince being 57 doesn't seem right somehow. Ditto others from the 80s who I grew up with eg. Billy Idol, who's still performing at 60. I quite like 'when doves cry' and 'kiss', really like 'take me with you', but not much else. Obviously a talented guy though. Apparently over 150,000 people die each day. So today is day 111 of 2016, so we've missed off maybe close to 17 million. But I got someone saying 62 was a good age I think. And she is damned tall. I regularly see them at various swimming events. Their son swims for Harlow swimming club. A few weeks back my wife was stood right next to him and kept thinking how much this bloke looked like Rod Stewart. I couldn't put a name to the pickups used on that guitar, they are actually single coil pickups, similar- sounding to those used on the standard Strat/Tele I'll wager. Prince was a 'me too' musician. There were several about at that time. He's OK, but there's nothing original or beautiful about the music, as I see and hear it. Apart from the name Prince there's nothing much to recommend the guy. I don't mean to put him down really. Takes courage to confront an audience. I often exchange music videos with my Canadian friend (who lives in Malaga) She recently sent me these two vids by Prince, but tbh, if someone offered me 1m Canadian dollars to name one song by Prince, I'd have to remain boracic. Yes, I know he did Purple Rain now, but I didn't before he croaked.
