I always believed that us oldies are the more skilled drivers. :-)

I wouldn't say 'unexpected'.

In an age when racing drivers often snipe at each other, when Fangio died, Stirling Moss said simply 'He was the greatest of them all'.

I was surprised to see Stirling himself so far down the list: I know he was never world champion, but he won a lot of races.

Moss certainly had his moments. Since I read Denis Jenkinson's legendary article for Motorsport, the one I think of first is winning the 1955 Mille Miglia by over half an hour - 1000 miles at an average speed of 98mph on ordinary Italian roads.
