Enough to shatter belief in German engineering.

German Engineering has always being very good .The flaw they have is to make it perfect at a certain cost.If they can't meet that cost like in the Diesel Scandal they will cheat.

We used to have Werkspoor ship engines but the German Deutz ship engine was better build.

If building of engines where left to the engineer German Engineering is very good.Until the Marketing guys got involved.Isn't that today with most products?

Their Messerschmitts, Heinkels, Junkers, and Dorniers, versus our Spitfires, Hurricanes, Bristols (I likes Bristols)
and Beaufighters, may tell a different story.

Not really, other than it's a recall about pedals, the article is stunningly lacking in any real information. Fault is probably caused by bean counters and the part is satisfactorily specified, but is defective in some way owing to it being too cheaply procured.

Vehicles involved are the VW Toerag and Porsche Cayenne. Oddly, the article doesn't mention the third sibling - Audi's Q7.

Sounds like a circlip made out of Cambozola.

Are these the Devil's floor mounted pedals? Never having a car with one of those again. Stone got trapped under the one in my erstwhile Touran, could barely depress the pedal at all. Dangerous situation. Was extremely difficult to remove.

They're on ze list with cambelts.

Morgan four wheeler brake and clutch ones are floor hinged. As I tend to leave my heel in place and push with with the toe end of the foot - I like them.

Much more objectionable and dangerous are the pedals where the accelerator pedal is substantially lower than the brake requiring a whole leg movement (lift) to go from accelerator to brake.

Feels a bit like that on the A3 - doesn't stop me liking the car, but it is a bit annoying. Perhaps it's not that bad in absolute terms, but it's different to previous cars I've driven.
