 Domestic switch for fan & light - Dave_
Evening folks. The light switch in my utility room has physically broken - the rocker bit has become detached from the surround and can be taken off, exposing live contacts. I need to replace it, however the switch also has a fused connection for the extractor fan. There are two other switches the same in the house (although with the light and fan switch positions reversed, which leads me to think they may be modular rather than bespoke). I can't find a direct replacement online anywhere, does anyone know where else to look?

I think in the first instance i'd have a look at the back of the switch for the name of the manufacturer. Don't attempt any electrical work unless you feel confident to do it. (it might even be illegal)

If you are confident

Take photo & take down details of the item
Go to a local wholesale electrical outlet and ask for 1 of these.

Switch Power off at mains.

Unscrew take pictures on your phone of what goes where
& re-assemble with your newly acquired switch.

If in doubt get a technically switched on neighbour who can help.
It's only a few screws - not Canbus or trying to repair a circuit board
with soldering iron & components.

Isn't the OP's problem actually finding such a switch? Never Seen one like it myself and a quick trawl of the Internet doesn't throw anything up. May possibly have to replace it with two separate switches?

Which is why, I guess, FB suggested ...............

The wholesaler might know a bit more about where to find one - or, if the design is still available.

Grid systems have been around for decades. See widely in office environments.

You just select what type of switch/fuse etc and clip it onto a grid that is behind the face plate.

I have used then in my house especially where e.g several switches control a hall light and several switches control a landing light. Two " intermediate" switches on one gang is an example I needed.

Thanks everyone. I'm perfectly confident with domestic wiring (in a non-professional situation), and it's legal as it's my own house and not someone else's.

It does seem to be a grid switch; this particular design also seems to be no longer available. I've taken a photo and will get down to Screwfix or wherever later in the week to put the right combination together.
