 Peugeot 308 - A pleasant surprise - Skip
Got told yesterday by a colleague that one of my brake lights wasn't working (no I don't check lights as often as I should !) Looked in the handbook and there was a fair bit of dismantling to be done from inside the boot just to get to the bulb and given that my DIY skills are somewhat limited I booked it in with the Peugeot dealer in Maidstone to be done this morning. Also as the car is still under warranty I was thinking that if it was a problem with the light assy itself then they could sort it but thought that I was going to pay through the nose a bit if it was just a bulb change. Left it while I went to get breakfast in Maccy D's and a haircut. Invoice total was £3.28 for bulb and fitting - and they valeted it inside and out, checked tyre pressures, the other lights, and fluid levels and topped up the screenwash ! Given that I was going into town anyway and would have paid £3.00ish for parking thought it was a bit of a result. I guess that Halfords would have charged more than that.

If its under warranty wouldn't they do it for free? Not that £3.28 matters, just wondered.

Light bulbs are consumables, so not covered by warranty. But the garage might have gained more goodwill by not bothering to invoice for such a small amount.

Bulbs are a consumable as far as I am aware so not covered. If it was a few months old it I am sure that they would have done it FOC but at 2.5 years even I wouldn't expect Peugeot to pay for it.

Fair enough i didn't know that. I suppose there's all sorts of exclusions.

Now that's what dealers should all be like. Common sense suggests that if they treat you like that you're more likely to come back and buy another Peugeot from them, or at least go on having this one serviced there.

I expect this is a dealership where the people serving customers are able within reason to make their own decisions, rather than having procedures imposed on then by men in suits (or even worse, computers) in somewhere like Milton Keynes.
