I understood that when the law on smoking in public places was brought in a couple(?) of years ago, it included smoking in company, or shared, vehicles.
Yesterday I saw the driver - presumably the instructor - smoking in a driving school car. Isn't that illegal?
Today, I saw three men smoking in a company van. Isn't that illegal?
As a former smoker, smoking when it isn't allowed is one of my (many) obsessions!
Has anybody ever been prosecuted for any of these offences?

Stop it Duncan. You're just trying to wind Pat, me and a host of other reasonable citizens up.
Dog in the manger mentality, if I can't have it you can't either, yap yap sheeesh!
I know it's for our own good, but mind your own business.

Driving test examiners have been instructed to refuse to conduct a test in any vehicle which shows evidence that cigarettes have been smoked.
I'm glad I gave the job up.

That is now a DSA directive.
When I first became an ADI one of the supervising examiners who conducted checks of Continued Ability and Fitness used to sit in the back during the lesson in question puffing away on his pipe.

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar. You're gonna go far, fly high, You're never gonna die, You're gonna make it if you try; They're gonna love you.
When I was out walking the dawg the other day, I stuck my head into posties van to ask if he had any post for me, and he was having a gasper!
Good luck to him, he wasn't doing anybody [else] any harm.

Although I packed it in a year ago, I agree with with AC. There's more important things to life than spending our time and money on prosecuting (or is it persecuting) the odd minor transgression.

Point is, no one is persecuting or prosecuting anyone. How many people have actually been prosecuted? Its not high on big brothers hit list, its a law sure and in time it will become the norm. Some laws are like that.

There was one bloke in Surrey, wherever that is.
Ages ago, and my attention span with Google ran out before finding more. But it's not completely unknown, evidently.

Until such time as the council bean counters work out that they can make money out of it (see litter, parking, etc)

Smoking in work vehicles
Smoking isn’t allowed in any work vehicle that more than one person uses, eg:
##taxis
##buses
##vans
##goods vehicles used by more than one driver
##company cars used by more than one employee
A worker can smoke in a company car that only they use if their employer agrees.

The last sentence has appeared in the last couple of years and certainly wasn't there when the ban first came in.
In the HGV section it has also appeared using the word HGV instead of company car.
