Having driven in the southern states of the USA and Australia and know that their road and tyre combinations can be a bit challenging in the wet, I wondered if the areas nearer the equator were supplied with harder tread compounds. This would mean longer tyre life in dryer areas but softer shorter lived tyres with better grip in cooler wetter areas. As for winter tyre tread compounds, only incompetents need them outside the Arctic circle. :-)

Tyres have a chip which detects when they are being tested for wear resistance, grip or noise, but reverts to normal "wear them out as soon as possible and buy another" mode afterwards.

So that is what TPMS is for. :-)

How much did yours cost? :-)))

Why would I need them, it was hotter than Rome and Barcelona in Scotland a few days ago. :-)

I've always been bemused by tyres that we would regard as Summer being described as All Season in the US, and often with incredible mileage guarantees - I've seen 80K.
