Ah, the Rand... hope it isn't too badly damaged. Back in the day it was a big, slightly down-at-heel commercial hotel whose only real advantage was its centrality. But its 'Star bar' was fashionable for a while and one spent a certain amount of time there standing on sticky carpeting and rubbing shoulders with terrifying nasty red-eyed behemoths of rugger players, while spending all available money (not much).

From the reports - The fire started in the kitchen and spread up " voids" .
The central roof has gone but the rest of the building seems to have escaped the fire.
