Halfords mechanic caught speeding in car in for MOT
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-32283758
IIRC this not the first time a customers dash cam has captured similar actions.

He drove your car in what I can only describe as an appalling manner.
Not on the clip I saw he didn't.
|
It seems exemplary driving to me.
It looks like a road safety film demonstrating how to make brisk but sensible progress.
Good approach to roundabouts, slows to give way to traffic on the right, but then slots in smoothly maintaining a reasonable speed with no sudden movements.
Good lane discipline, clearl;y aware of approaching possible hazzards.
Have we been shown the wrong clip?

is the repeated chime on the soundtrack indicating something

Sounded like a seatbelt warning to me.
Having watched this not really sure what the fuss is
|
Quite. Didn't abuse the car or drive recklessly. Just exceeded the speed limit. Big deal.
|
I'm guessing that Halfords didn't contact the BBC, so one can only assume it was the mortally offended and shocked "Mr. Ingram".
I wonder why?
>>Mr Ingram said: "From now on I will always wait by the car whilst it is being serviced."
Bit of an over-reaction, perhaps.
|
Nothing wrong with the driving in the clip and indeed, I don't mind my mechanic taking the car for a drive when in for a service, might notice something I've gradually grown used to.
However, the report mentions 7 hours of footage! was the car driven by the Halfords guy for 7 hours?
|
>> the report mentions 7 hours of footage
I wonder how many hours of that Mr Ingram sat through before he found the 2 minutes of driving.
Apparently the mechanic even used bad language while servicing the car.

I doubt if the car was offended.

Truly appalling that. One wonders whether the car was even old enough to be 'serviced'. The mechanic should get porridge for what may amount to young car abuse. Automotive noncing, that's what it looks like.

Much ado about nothing. Sounded quite good though.

If it was in for a MOT, its at least 3 yrs old so it would have the
Volvo 2 Litre 5 cylinder lump.

Reminds me of a similar thing that happened to someone's Vauxhall Monaro back in 2009 and was captured by the owners Roadhawk.

This bloke was on Jeremy Vine today with his whinge. He got very little sympathy from the show's callers, either from within the trade or outside it.

Sorry RR - you mean the Focus ST owner?
|
Seemed a bit more vocal than my Volvo's motor....maybe meant to.
|
2.5 litre 5 cylinder turbo lump to be pedantic...
Seriously fine engine, blistering performance and wonderful soundtrack. I very nearly bought one about seven years ago but the fuel economy put me off.
|
Nice engine sound he put his foot down a bit nothing else.
