 TV Problem - Skip
For the last 6 years I have had an LG LCD TV and an LG DVD player/Suround sound system, they were linked scart to scart and worked perfectly. I was given a Samsung LED Smart TV for Christmas which is now linked to the LG DVD by an HDM1 (or is it HDMI ?) as there is onlly one sart plug on the back of the TV and the Sky box needs that. The problem is that the picture and sound on the TV is slightly out with the sound coming through the surround sound speakers, its not out much but enough to be noticable so you have to turn the sound off on one or another. A sound bar came with the TV and this is connected with an optical cable (?) and the soiund is out of sync with the TV on that as well. Do you think that it is a fault with the TV or do they need to be "paired". Any ideas ?

To what is the surround sound connected? And the sound bar?

Standard and HD transmissions are not in sync. Is your new TV using HD and the original kit providing sound using standard channels ?

I bought a Sony telly and sound bar before Christmas, the sound on those is slightly out of sync as well.

I've found that if I turn the TV on first, let it warm up* for a minute and THEN turn the sound bar on, the TV shows the message "Audio System Active" and the sound comes from the sound bar alone.

*This is my first flat screen set, is it just me or do all new TVs refuse to accept commands from the remote control for 40 seconds or so after switch-on?

Can't comment on the 40 seconds or so.... but before an image is even shown it takes a while for a TV to boot from fully off.

About 2 seconds for image to appear and 8 seconds to respond to controller on my new Sony. Just timed it.

Faster than our old Panasonic bought in 2008.

The latest LG and John Lewis TVs use webOS which was bought from HP. It was the OS bought by HP from Palm. It's Linux based. So you've got a full mobile OS in these TVs. Others are moving to Android too.

A few years back Sony and Toshiba were touting the Cell processor from the PS3 in TVs. Not much came of that. As in it wasn't a huge success of selling point.

There are numerous reasons why synch problems arise (including issues with HD broadcasts - ITVHD News has recently been "suspect").

Given that this story is relatively "hot off the press" however, it has to be a bit of a suspect.

Check your firmware version!

(Though a key question is whether the sound and picture on the TV are slightly out of synch, or it is the sound played externally which is out of synch with the TV picture (and sound). In the latter case, there may well be an "audio delay" setting in the TV menu that allows adjustment)

The sound and picture on the TV are in sync its the sound from the external sources that is out.

I don't pay for any HD from Sky so not sure if this is an issue.

The sound bar is connected to the TV with an optical cable and the red and white speaker cables. The DVD/surround sound box is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable and the Sky box is connected to the TV with a scart cable.

I have just noticed buttons on the sound bar remote that say audio sync so will have a play with them

Edit - That's that one sorted. Just the DVD player now !

There are several HD channels on terrestrial digital TV (is it still called Freeview?). If your new TV has an HD tuner you will have HD and standard channels available.

So there is, have only watched it through Sky so far.

Have just got to find the vertical & horizontal hold controls now !
