There's been a disproportionately huge amount of marketing and media coverage over here recently for the 2015 all-new 308. Is it that good? Just another Golf wannabee isn't it? Doesn't look that inspiring. 1.2 petrol turbo engine is a peach apparently.
Can't see it worrying the Corolla in these parts...

It's not the good products that need a lot of advertising.

I was a big Peugeot fan back in the 106, 205, 306, 405, 406 era. OK, so bits of the interiors would rattle and start falling off from day 1, but you could live with that because the basics were just nailed. Good looking cars that drove superbly, were cheap to buy, cheap to run and maintain, and were fundamentally tough and reliable. Threading our old 106, or one of our old 306s across a good road is still an experience I remember with joy more than a decade after last doing it. And apart from dealer incompetence, not once did I have any serious issues with any of them.
Today they seem to have improved the interior quality. At the expense of pretty much everything else that ever made their cars appealing. You'd just buy a Golf, surely.

Does Peugeot sell many cars in NZ? Seems a long way to send a few cars.

SQ again for the person who says he always does!

TWO LINES WAS ALL YOU SQ'd
Its a disease with you.

See, you've done it YET AGAIN!
>> TWO LINES WAS ALL YOU SQ'd
This time, yes. But other times it's a hell of a lot more.
I wouldn't be drawing your attention to it if it wasn't a problem. No one wants to re-read someone elses entire post to then read your one line reply. Sometimes you still leave in the quote the other person has as well when they're quoting someone elses reply!
>> Its a disease with you.
Laziness is also as disease, and you're riddled with it ;/
Perhaps it's a tablet/phone thing and you can't be bothered summarising someone elses post when replying because it's not as easy as a laptop/desktop. If that's the case then how about not quoting the post you're replying to at all?

one has to because of the s***ty way the forum works.
You snipped two lines out of 4 and then complained about it. Seriously, seek help.

Ah, stop yer complaining and do as you're told (for once), and stop arguing that black is white all the time ;)

Well it's done you well over the years (and you've previously given it praise), but on occasion you still act like a forum newbie instead of a veteran.
It was a simple observation, followed by a request, which you then started arguing about. Nothing more, nothing less.
Now can we move on please.

It does have one feature that appeals to me - proper TC auto with the diesel engine.
|
Same applies to Mazda diesels. They have TC autos too. No dual clutch autos (yet).

Shame about the engines ;-)
Also considering Mazda 6 petrol auto when the time comes.
|
TC auto / diesel combo is what's making me lean towards BMW again when I order my new car shortly.
Really not a fan of the DSG on the various VAG options from a driving perspective, and it has a (significant) CO2 penalty over a manual, where the brilliant ZF8 TC box found on BMWs has none.
Which is a shame, as the CC GT 177PS is otherwise a very appealing option.

Hang on until the middle of next year and order a Passat GTE. You'll save lots on BIK because it's a hybrid. If I got one of those I'd not go out of my way to charge it from the mains.
I would say the DSG equipped Passat had a significant penalty over the manual variant. For the 190PS Passat VIII it's 107g/km vs. 119g/km. So that's 2% more. But the Passat diesel 190PS SE Business is probably cheaper than the BMW you're looking at. The 240PS 4Motion might be more fun :-)
Note I mention the new Passat because you're right the old CC has high emissions for both manual and DSG variants of the 177PS engine. And it's only Euro 5. I think the Passat is worth a look.
|
The new Passat is going on the list from January which is when I need to order. Not sure in what forms though. Will get away with leaving it a month or two, but not the middle of next year.
We have a list to pick from rather than a budget, and it's not extensive. BMW (120d, 320d), VW (Passat, CC, Golf), and Audi (A3, A4) basically. Other bits come and go.
I really want two pedals next time due to miserable traffic conditions in this neck of the words, and DSG is a deal breaker for me unfortunately. I find its quirks very annoying, and talking to colleagues with DSG VWs, a worrying number of them seem to suffer from random odd behaviour presumably software related. A few have also failed outright in the first year. It's a shame because when rolling and going up through the gears, its impressive.

Surely that's one of the massive benfits of having a company car? Quirky is good - you can choose a car that you'd never dream of spending your own money on. When I had company cars I tried really hard to get an Alfa - but that was a step too far, apparently. :)

I'm impressed with the DSG in the Audi 1.4TFSi I have. Also impressed with the car. I suppose I should when list price was just over £31k! For an A3 saloon.
Passat's are likely to be SE and SE Business I'd guess. I'll be interested in those but have had my car for less than 2 months.
New A4 is out next year too of course. So you might not get to order one of those even if you could live with DSG.

Lot of money for a Jetta

>> Lot of money for a Jetta
Next Jetta maybe. But the current Jetta is not based on the MQB platform. So not a Jetta. A booted Golf maybe.

A Jetta, then. Stuartli will be along in a mo to tell you how good his is.
|
I meant a current model Golf. Or Octavia or Leon... etc. The Jetta is based on the previous platform used by the previous Golf/Passat/Octavia/Leon/A3. So no not a Jetta.
If they'd update the Jetta I'd have considered it. It would be cheaper and I prefer VW to Seat and Skoda.

In fact the revisions to the Jetta make it more expensive and older platform etc. Give me the Passat VIII anyway. I didn't have the option to consider it. My car was replaced in early October and I ordered it many months before that.
|
Damn... I inserted Passat in the wrong place. The previous Passat used a variant of the old platform. I meant to include it where I said Octavia or Leon... or A3 for that matter. Or a Golf SV.
