Anyone own/driven the 90HP(?) HDI 207? Nippy enough? Presumably the fuel consumption is fabulously low, in line with the competition from VW Polo Bluemotion and the Fiesta Eco-whassisname? Am tempted by a dealer demonstrator... Thanks!

i borrowed my sisters 2010 1.6hdi and was nippy enough and ran happily along at above 70mph with little noise from tyres or wind.

mixed driving over 600 miles gave 51mpg. brim to brim

EDIT: seems it's 110BHP not 90. Sounds good to me. 5-speed manual. But this engine has apparently just been superceded by a 6-speed 112BHP with 50% new components... So am I viewing a defunct inferior car..?!

Unfortunately always, frequent changes + marketing hype = cash for manufacturers.

the 90hp is ok and the 110hp engine i find is pretty nippy. i have it in my c3 picasso and its plenty of power for the size of car.

I had a small petrol engined version on hire. It was horrible! Steering and handling just not involving, probably more fun and feel with a video game.
However towards the end of the week I started to push it much harder and it seemed to come alive in terms of handling. I mentioned that to somebody else who had had a test drive in one of the hottest versions and he told me that that more powerful ones had a much better feel.

Cant vouch for what the 207 is like, but I have the 110 1.6 HDi in my citroen C5 and its suprisingly OK - can be a little sluggish pulling away, but that is due to the power to weight ratio. On the move its fine, and can still pull quite well.

If it helps I get about 53mpg, so in something smaller and lighter I dont see why it shoudnt top 60mpg

Would also add that (in diesel terms) I fiond it very quite and refined

Another thumbs up for the PSA/Ford 1.6 HDI engine, although this time it was in a Citroen C4. This engine is very widely used (from little MINIS to big Volvos, via Fiestas, Focus', C-Max, Mondeos, C3, C4, C5, Picassos, 207, 307, 308, 406, 3008, 5008, S40, S60, V70, S80) - have I missed any?

Yes. Suzuki SX4. Citroen Berlingo, and Mazda 3 to add to the list (thank you wikipedia!)

Didn't know about the Suzuki having the engine. But if you're having a Berlingo, I'll raise you a Peugeot Partner, and a Volvo C30!

I don't recall ever driving an HDi Peugeot/Citroen with a duff engine. I've driven the 1.6 in a Citroen C4 and a Peugeot 407 and it's a peach.

Sounds good. Thanks everyone for the input so far. Off to test drive the car tomorrow afternoon so will report back afterwards! Car looks well equipped: alloys, air-con, cruise control, so I'm hoping I will like it!
