Problem started few months ago when tailgate window refused to stay closed,would automatically come down again. Also door buttons click locked then unlock whilst stationary when engine off and when being driven! Does anyone have any Idea. Could it be the mechanism in the tailgate door as thats where most noise is coming from and humming from?

It's worth checking the wiring between the door and the body of the vehicle - where it flexes every time the door opens and closes.

Are you sure this is a freelander 2.This model does not have a drop down tailgate glass.

If you have humming and noise from the tailgate then that where the problem is. The cable where it flexes between door and body is obviously favourite, unless you are good with a wiring diagram and a soldering iron and heat shrink, then its an auto electrician or the garage job.

I had a vague recollection that the original Freelanders did this when the battery was failing, and a google suggests that is the case.
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery causes the window to drop (designed to do so), so maybe raising the window drops the voltage enough to trick the system into thinking this has occurred.
Battery disconnection is also part of the procedure for recalibrating the rear window according to this -

Problem -
TAIL DOOR GLASS OPENS AUTOMATICALLY IMMEDIATELY AFTER CLOSING
Cause
Tail door glass calibration incorrectly set within the Central Control Unit (CCU).
Action
Where a complaint of the above is confirmed, follow the calibration procedure below to reset the tail door glass.
Calibration procedure
1. Disconnect the battery earth lead. Refer to Workshop Manual, General Information, Electrical Precautions, Battery disconnection.
NOTE: Allow ten seconds to elapse between disconnection and connection to erase the stored calibration value.
2. Connect the battery earth lead.
NOTE: The tail door glass will drop approximately 2 seconds after the battery has been connected.
3. Start engine.
4. Ensure that all electrical loads, i.e. lights, heater etc. are turned off.
5. Increase the engine speed to 1500 rev/min for 10 seconds, after 10 seconds and whilst maintaining 1500 rev/min, carry out the following operations:
Close the tail door glass to calibrate the CCU.
Fully open the tail door glass.
Fully close the tail door glass.
If the tail door glass remains closed the calibration procedure is complete, refer to step 6.
If the tail door glass opens then repeat the calibration procedure from step 1.
6. Allow engine to idle then switch off engine."
