I've been trying to change my forum name from pda to Pat for weeks now but all I get is this
>>There was a problem updating this record.
Duplicate entry 'Pat' for key 'forum_alias'<<<
Help Please!
Pat

It sounds like it is trying to make a new primary key using a name that already exists. I am not familiar enough with forum software to be able help any further, but what forum software are you using?
|
Like Rattle I suspect it means the forum name Pat is already taken.
Try Pat X or Pat 2 as alternatives.

Let forum search be your friend.

No idea what the software accepts as different, but PAT, or Pat{space} might work.

Forum search won't be quite as friendly now if you are searching for Pat's (not Pat's) last post.

Quite so. All the more reason to have names that the forum software can distinguish between.
I can forsee the the situation in the future, where we are responding to one of Pat posts and one of us will say "Hang on a sec, you said in xx that you thought lorry drivers were the lowest of the low" - or something.
No. What Pat has done will cause confusion in the ranks.
Bring back Pat2!

Thanks all, I couldn't recall another Pat, but I must have missed that one.
Changes have been made now:)

Pat, you must be Pat 2, not Pat1, Shirley?
|
You've lost me there Duncan..I know it's not a hard thing to do:)
Pat

Morning Pat,
We have established that someone was already posting on this forum using the handle 'Pat'. Your name is Pat, so quite naturally you decide that you would like to use the handle 'Pat'.
But you can't, because someone else beat you to it. So you are the second Pat.....
Therefore I submit that you are Pat 2 and it would be more accurate to describe yourself so.
May I assure you that these remarks are made in a spirit of goodwill.
BTW. Shouldn't you be at work?
;-)
|
Certainly not Duncan, if someone else couldn't be bothered to use a '1' after their Pat then I shall claim it as mine.
Work? I am shortly off out the front in my welly boots to jump up and down on our newly acquired driveway to see how much 'stuff' we need to fill the holes left by my drunken landlord and his aged labourer;)
I shall then attempt to get myself into domesticated mode for the festivities.
I have never succeeded yet but we can hope!
Now, enough of the pedantry Bah humbug!
Pat
|
I've met Pat and can assure you we wouldn't want two of them!
;>)
|
I also have met Pat, BT, and I take exception to your comment. It was a very cheeky and naughty thing to say. Ungrateful, even. :-)
|
I thought so too FP, I shall start calling him Tubby Tommy again now;)
Pat
|

Yes, but the other Pat wouldn't have needed to put "1" after his name because when he registered he was the only Pat. He has however got historical rights to be "1" as he was the first user and would be perfectly entitled to complain in the strongest terms if someone came along and blatantly stole what is rightfully his.
I think you should admit your mistake, apologise profusely and rechristen yourself Pat 2. It is Christmas, you know.
|
>>It is Christmas, you know<<
So it may be, but I'm not budging.
I've just done a forum search for all posts by 'Pat' and 'pat' and only those by Pat1 show up:)
That must mean the forum software approves of my user name change and the other 'Pat' who couldn't even be bothered to put up with all your idiosyncrasies and stick around, has been deleted:) :)
As you all seem to think he was a male then it must show that it takes female to tolerate you lot!

However "Pat" registered 161 weeks ago.
"Pat1" registered 199 weeks ago.
I think "Pat" should apologize and change his/her name to "Pat2" whilst hanging his/her head in shame.
|
So do I, he/she was a one post wonder anyway.
No staying power at all.
Pat1
|
I think Pat1 looks stoopid ... the forum name, would Pat be accepted as a new name I wonder?

Pat

Pat in italics?
< i > P a t < / i >
but with no spaces.
|
You are a little gem Mark!
Love it, and it's bound to upset the mods too:)
Pat
|
Congratulations Pat2 on your new forum name.
|
No, no, no, Duncan, you'll have to get up earlier than that.
My new, new forum name is Pat but sloped sideways;)
Pat
|
Does this mean the other one will have to change their name to Pat?
|
Yes, but do you mean Patwithalinethrough?
Pat
|
>> Love it, and it's bound to upset the mods too:)
Nope. If you want a slanted appearance to your name, then that's up to you ;)
|

Nope, her account is still alive, should she wish to come back and post again. Now you've confused the issue by having another Pat on the system. Someone might think it was you who asked the question about insurance.

No. Pat would equate to Pat blank/nothing.
So our Pat become Pat1 - just as she has.
Also think floors in buildings - ground floor isn't know as 1 is it?
the floor above ground floor is know as the first floor, even though its the 2nd (after the ground....)

I'm sure if somebody registered under the name "swiss tony1" you'd be rather miffed.

Naw... not at all.
I have a nickname I use on other sites, and I'm often putting or seeing others using the same name with numbers after...
|
You know I thought you meant your own forum not your username on this one! My thought for not reading it properly :p.
|
>>My thought for not reading it properly
How do you get from "fault" to "thought"?
Are you using some kind of voice recognition software, or just about the worst spell checker ever?
|
>> How do you get from "fault" to "thought"?
That's something I do too, think of one word but end up typing something else that sounds similar. Of course the definition of 'similar' can depend on amount of alcohol consumed :)

If a new poster decided to call themselves Duncan1 or Duncan I would be irritated.
However as my name isn't Duncan, it wouldn't be the end of the world, I would probably change my username to something else.
However if my real name was Duncan, I would be rather more than irritated.

Given that Pat was a one thread poster some while ago I cannot see any real issue with Pat. If somebody tried to register as Bromptonaut2 or Bromptonaut then I hope an appeal to the moddies or Stephen would be successful.
|
Sshhhhh Bromp, they haven't seen this thread yet and haven't realised my name now slopes sideways;)
Pat

Had she done, I could have sorted it out in a jiffy.
|
I thought you deserved a rest Dave;)
While the cats away.....
Pat
|
I have to say, I am pretty annoyed. I have now had to change my Forum ID so I don't get confused with this other cuckoo in the nest.
|
Confused? How could anyone do that, you're just another one post wonder and you'll never catch me up anyway;)
PAT001? Sounds like an invoice number hmmmm.
Pat
|
How about a shared one? You could join forces and have "Pat m'Dog"
;-)
|
...or have Pat emblazoned on a T-shirt...

Wouldn't that be Pat........Pat?

From now on I'll think of them as Sloping Pat and Upright Pat.

Did you have a deleting fest Dave? Pat0001 seems to have gone, and his mates.
|
What's with the business of changing one's forum name?
PDA is now Pat2 or Pat, Ted has become Horace Ontaltwin (I thought it was a flat four?), FOR - is it? - has become some Latin phrase. Where will it all end?
Just before Christmas, too!
|
I'm confused, I don't know my own name anymore...
Pat
|
Pat/PDA, aren't you meant to be sat at the docks all day? :-)
|
Just read your other post about why you're on here today. Have a good Christmas break.
|
Nah - Pats a fair weather Trucker..
|
At least I manage to round buses and not try and go through them.
Pat

I got there before the bus.
