North Korea's rehabilitation is making poor progress. Supposedly they have been building bridges after their show of aggression, and gearing up to attract tourists.
Machine gunning his ex-girlfriend and her entire band, and sending the rest of her associates to labour camps, isn't going to convince many observers of the regime's good intentions.

It's not a good idea not to approve of Kim Wrong-un. Or not to smile and cheer enthusiastically whenever he appears. Maybe they still don't feel completely safe in South Korea. If they were that keen on him, why did they "escape"?

Machine gunning is still taking criticism too far.
It seems possible that Kim's charming wife was a little bit jealous. Rather puts our lot, at their very worst, in the shade.
It's difficult to be proud of the human race. If the space people ever did arrive, and decided to exterminate us before we got loose in the galaxy, it would be difficult to disagree with their reasoning.

Either way the result is similar but the latter cuts down on the funeral expenses.
