I like them! We hired one in Epernay last year; although we'd driven down there and had a car with us. The Tourist Information office was hiring them out, presumably in conjunction with either Renault or a local dealer. It was only €30 or €40 and included a half bottle of champagne :-).
'Ours' was a Twizzy 45, limited to 45kmh. I don't think that model is available in the UK - the ones on sale here go faster! Nonetheless it was absolutely fine around town. We we warned not to take it outside the town itself, so of course we headed out to the vineyards on the edge of town. Slightly nerve wracking crossing a main road, but out in the country it was actually great fun. We were stopped by a couple of locals wanting to look at and talk about the car!
Access for the rear passenger is tricky, but the driving position in the front is fine. No rear view mirror though, but its barely wider than a motorbike so the wing mirrors are fine. I've got a picture somewhere of it parked next to our LEC in a car park in the town centre - it's small :-)
In true French style it wasn't fully charged when we picked it up. Despite that, it was still more than a quarter charged when we handed it back, and I hadn't driven in the slightest bit economically all day...
It's the sort of 'car' that I started to look for a reason to buy - perfect for my commute. Though the reality of W Sussex in winter vs Champagne in September did somewhat temper my enthusiasm once home. That along with the price - £7k or so and you have to lease the batteries at around £40 a month. Winning one in a draw though - that would be great!
But won't you need a large cupboard, rather than a drawer, to keep it in... ;-)

It must have been a big drawer!

Does the prize include the cost of leasing the batteries?

saw one in Coniston over the recent half-term hols. A real headturner

I see one fairly regularly on the M3 during rush hour. Seems to lick along at a reasonable pace for the typical traffic conditions. Doesn't look much fun in bad weather though.
|
Why on God's earth would anyone want one? Is this the thing with no windows? In this country?
|
There's one commutes at same time as me who I see a couple of times a month at the lights by Holborn station.
Distinct lack of weather protection but a hell of a rate of acceleration. I think Z said same tihng about standing start rapidity of a Nissan Leaf his son borrowed.

Am I missing something? Why didn't they make it with proper windows in the first place? Have pillarless upper doors if people want the fresh air.

I would have one - I imagine it to be great fun n a summers day, just not so sure about a wet Monday in January.
I also noticed on the link the Fluence. When I was in Tunisia earlier in the year we were given one as a hire car, only it was a petrol engined model, and clearly built to a budget for developing markets. The guys I was with were French and neither had seen the model before.
Think its low rent beginnings may put me off spending 18K plus batteries on one

the winner has to rent the batteries from renault at £25 a month but our work place include a free charging point to charge up whilst at work, i wouldnt fancy leaving it outside on the drive at night though,
