Has anyone used the above for shirts or trousers or indeed any other clobber?

Eye, that's the One!

You have to be able to carry a monocle off. They aren't for everyone. My old man had one but I never knew him to wear it. He was too nice and too interested in people - and too retiring - to get away with such a thing which is for setting people and things at a distance and putting them in their place.

I've still got the gold frame somewhere, but the lens is long gone. Don't want to use it myself. Perhaps sometimes, with a black lens.

Yes, a very good value, well made summer suit. However, I dislike the side adjusters that are a feature of all of their trousers, unnecessary additions I feel.

Never heard of them before, Tattersall shirts are tempting.

Might give them a go, have tried several times to order from Charles Twyright (speeling?), just can't get on with their website and end up spitting me dummy out.

Known in our house as Terry Fusswit (well, almost - Viz readers will know what I mean) for its incessant and faux-chummy emails and letters, and the insistence that its normal prices represent some sort of reduction. Shirts themselves, though, generally decent value and fit my gibbon arms better than most.

There's a full page ad in today's paper for a gruesome Peter Christian cotton jacket with button-flapped side pockets. Horrible.

Blimey, clothes for driving small beige Volvos in. Who'da thought it?

I'm not tempted by the Attache raincoat but I do love the completely un-PC photograph!

Although little of the collection would appeal to me it looks good stuff, a cut above (sorry for pun) the usual chainstore stuff but not particularly overpriced.

Anyway dogskin is the right stuff for driving gloves, if your palms are soft enough to need them. Doeskin is for wimps.

And I like your fat black neo-sporran Humph. God though I hate briefcases, all of them. I've got several stuffed with bumf I don't need/daren't look at depending on case.

I love the nightshirts.. Next time I feel like Scrooge I will buy one.....

Funnily enough, I rather like the Attaché Raincoat. I could do with something like that for travelling, that won't suffer from being rolled up and stuffed into an overhead compartment.

I like the hommage to pre-war styling too. Reminds me of the old magazine pages this chap puts up on his site. (Scroll down a bit for an example.)

Very amusing site - sort of a fifties time warp. Is some of this stuff for real?

Oh yes. For example go to Burleigh on the first day of the horse trials, and you will see many in yellow checked waistcoats, orange tweed jackets and plus fours with DuBarry boots, holding a pair gun dogs on a lead.

You don't have to go that far. Tweed jacket, moleskin trousers, flat cap and check shirt with skinny tie is still de rigeur for the more traditional farmers round here, even some of the younger ones; especially at the mart.

There are still several traditional gentlemens outfitters in Carmarthen, including a very successful market stall which specialises in the sort of underwear your grandparents used to wear. And rolls of oilcloth for covering tables.

Carmarthen mart... a phrase that rings a bell more than 60 years on. It was one of the events often referred to in the Fishguard of 1949-51. I was a child but still remember it.

Amazing how much some people are prepared to spend to look like utter tits...

Please do not describe me as a tit.

I wonder how many moles are needed for a moleskin suit. www.peterchristian.co.uk/mens/suits/moleskin-suit

You need a mole, and all the mole's kin.

Boom boom.
