Airbag came on when I was coming back from Newark on the wkend, pulled over and tried turning car off and on again, made no difference.

Check Hyundai forums and many references to the airbag connector behind glovebox responding to a gentle wiggle solving the problem - I did this and sure enough light now goes out - it is booked in at dealer next week, is it worth it now the light has gone out and it is pretty clearly the connector?

Im going to drive it about on the wkend, see if it comes back but assuming it doesnt, leave it?

Disconnect battery, wait for an hour for the system to go really flat, then undo clean and reconnect the connector.

Unless you want to wiggle it every week.

Dont bother with the dealer. Unless you want him to do the disconnecting and cleaning.

What he said.

I had the same problem with my Escort's passenger seat occupant (weight) sensor plug - it started playing up after a full valet involving moving the seat through its full travel. A battery-off disconnect and clean-up solved it.

Okey dokey, cheers.

Two things if disconnecting the battery;

Don't forget to ensure you have any radio codes or similar.

Touching the negative and positive battery leads together for a few moments will ensure the system is discharged without harm.

Seem to have fixed it. The side airbag connector under the passenger seat while still together had been knocked out of its holder in the seat base. I gave it a good squeeze and have just done 80 miles with no lights coming on.

I reckon some rear seat passenger must have kicked the mat under the seat a few weeks ago when I did an airport run and knocked it out the holder.

Minicabing now are we?

Well my mum was sitting in the offending seat, so I wont be making too much of it, they only got back from OZ a few weeks ago :-)

That sort of thing (or stuff stowed under the seat) regularly put the airbag light on in both Xantia and Berlingo.

Are you being serious touching together the positive to negative of the battery while still connected to the car could have catastrophic results and doing the same when not connected to the car could ruin the battery and lose you your eyesight. .

The idea is to touch the leads together once disconnected from the battery, thus discharging any capacitors in the system.

I'm sceptical personally, but it can't do any harm.

Well it could actually. capacitors in systems don't like being suddenly discharged. Personally I would let stuff drain slowly.

Or once the battery is disconnected, switch on the lights to drain any residual power left in the electrical system. Probably just opening any of the doors would do the same because the interior light would drain off any residual power left.

What's this? A fault on a sainted Hyundai Muntermobile? Should have bought a FIAT Stilo.

Caused by human error yes.

The human error in a Fiat is the one buying it.
