 Deleting Kindle Archive - Ambo
How can I do this, one-by-one or in one go please? I can get no clear aswer from Amazon. There are two copies, one held with Amazon and the other on the Kindle. There are about 70 titles. There seems no way of getting rid of either set.

Go to "My Kindle" on Amazon. Find the book, delete it from there.

As FM2R says

Your Account
Manage Your Kindle
Drop down box next to individual books
Delete

Once you delete that way, they're gone forever, and you'd have to buy them again if you want them. I'm not sure why you would want to delete them from the archive though - they are not taking up any space on your Kindle and there is no problem in keeping thousands of books in Archive.

Remember the books are linked to your account, and the account to the kindle.
If you want to wipe the kindle, just remove your account and reset kindle.
That way you still have the books on your account for any future devices.

Thanks, CG. I've done part of that but it takes ages. It was perhaps an excessive desire for tidiness that lead me to it. There was no porn, unless you count the racier parts of "Lost Illusions". Practically everything came free from Gutenburg.

I've pretty well run out of free Kindle books I want to read. Most of Amazon's own free books are terrible, so after nearly a year's absence I'm back at our local library.
Posh it is too, in a nice modern building, warm, free internet access if needed and with scanning machines to register books being borrowed and returned.
High tech stuff!
Parking's the problem - just gone up to £1 minimum from 60p :-(

Amazon have some books 'on offer' at times and are either free or very cheap (like 20p). I've got some books that I might not have otherwise and enjoyed them. And the promotion works because I then have bought others by the same author.

For example, Life of Pi is 20p at the moment.

I don't get books at full price for the Kindle. I'll wait for them to come down after being out a while.

Does sound like Roger's plan for cheap reading has't paid off because he bought the Kindle. Should have just continued using the library service? Or got an eReader that supports ePub format and got his ebooks from the same source as his viewing material for the TV.

If you have an ePub reader you can probably borrow ebooks from the library - that's what the boss does from Herts Library Service.

She uses the mobile library too, mainly to keep it going for the old folk (I haven't pointed out that the people on the van probably see her as one).

I do wonder where it will settle. Kindle seems utterly dominant now yet the library uses ePub. Something has to give.

Some libraries now support Kindle too. But they are costly to have electronic books to lend - they can only be lent so many times before deleting. They 'wear' out just like real books, possibly faster. Madness. There should be a charge each time it is lent and not simply deleted after so many borrowers have had the ebook.

I didn't know that - but it might explain why they can be "out". My wife often has to reserve books she wants to borrow - either they have limited licences in terms of concurrent loans, or they are 'rationing' usage so as not to wear out the licence too quickly.

It's a bit odd that a digital book can be 'out on loan'.

This is exactly how it works. They buy so many digital copies and each copy can only be lent so many times before it has to be deleted. A better model would be to pay a lesser amount to the publisher for each time the book is borrowed.

Some libraries charge for you to borrow ebooks too.

I think a company called OverDrive is used by some lending libraries to provide their lending service.

The 20p books don't tend to change very often, which is why I pointed out the daily 99p deal :)

There are vast stores of free ebooks on Gutenburg and Manybooks. (There are other free sites but I can't make them work.) For the most part, the books are free because they are out of copyright, which usually means over 50 years. This may not suit everyone but it does me.

I just, out of interest, trawled though our previous year's library books list to see how many were on Kindle (we don't have one). Of Mrs C's choices, 80% could have been Kindled, whereas of mine, only 22% could have been.
