Why does this website disconnect me after a short period of time?
Its damned annoying and serves no useful purpose.

Erm, it might just be that it um, er, has um, special instructions for for er, certain um, accounts...
:-)
|
just keep spouting rubbish all day, one tends not to get logged out then.
|
Ah so that's why you...? No never mind... !
:-)

I NEVER get timed out/logged out so I must be pre-approved and have a halo:)

If you don't post for a bit you will be logged out and need to reenter your password. You might have opted for the browser to store passwords to make logging in quicker.

The cookies expire after 20 minutes of inactivity on this site - just a legacy software quirk from the old days. I usually have several threads open in multiple tabs, if I've taken my time writing a post I always refresh another tab first (and confirm it's worked by checking for "Log out" as an option in the TRHC) before clicking "Post Message" in this tab.

The fact that you're logged out from posting after 20 mins never really bothers me. If Facebook did it I'd not have been 'fraped' on my birthday by my daughter saying I wished to be known henceforth as old f8rt!!

I'd prefer a longer timeout - 20 mins seems a bit short for this site.

>>I'd prefer a longer timeout
Me too. Lets go for 7 years.

Hardly ever been an issue for me, if at all. I can't remember the last time I got timed out of this site.
But then again I don't loiter in one thread or post for 20 mins. I usually just read it, contribute where necessary and move on to the next one.
God knows what you're doing dawdling in one thread/post for that long with no activity. Surely typing a reply doesn't even take 20 mins?

Neither do I.
But then, that's not how it consistently works. When I started this thread I had just been timed out of a reply within 2 minutes of hitting reply.
Please don't start on of your tiresome notes working out which browser it is, or what software I might be using, or what I might be doing with the cookies, because none of it is relevant.
20 minutes or 78 million years, do you know what the timeout is for?

>> do you know what the timeout is for?
You know as much as I do, probably more, as you were using this platform long before I was.
IIRC, the only things added since then is the 'new' marker next to the thread title, and the 3 arrows next to the time/date marker.
Again, IIRC, this question cropped up several times in the BR, but cannot recall if an answer was ever given. Their forum search is next to useless, so IMHO it would be a waste of time searching for it.

I read this site regularly (probably as much as many here) without ever logging in. I only log in when I have something to say. Therefore never been bothered by the timeout, as I don't have as much to say as some here! :-)
