Just what I wanted for Christmas - Ambo

First instalment today of an introduction to 50 great composers, begining with a jolly romp. Bright, instructive and educational, right up my street. (It needs Spotify for the sound tracks.)

"I should say straight off that there’s anything wrong with popular classics" (2nd para). Don't expect that from the DT :o

You can probably find the pieces on youtube too (I stopped using spotify when they not unreasonably put restrictions on free plays) eg. No.1: Stravinsky - Scherzo à la Russe

There are numerous other sources for the music (and I expect to find that I have a number of them on CD) but they don't supply the useful background and commentary given by Gavin Hewett.

Unfortunately, it's getting as sloppy as the rest, although the print version is correct. Still, the series is a welcome cultural lightening in an otherwise rather philistine paper.
