Of course not Wp. I learned that stuff here and from Private Eye.

The 16 year old is in New York with her class going round art galleries. She says the accommodation is dire but New York is great. She had been given a free bagel and an impatient geezer behind her in a queue had paid for her water just to get her out of the way.

I know how she feels. I once went to a Jack-in-theBox drive-through food place in the far West of the US, and the microphone, and workers behind it, couldn't decipher my diffident murmur. It was only when I heard the black driver of the car behind bawling his order into the mike that I realised I would have to go round again. And so it proved.

"Linguist Donna Sheridan said: “There can never be one truly definitive set of spellings or definitions.

The swear filter has removed a whole sentence!

The gist of what she said was "If I see one more person write 'loose' when they mean 'lose', I am going to jolly well top myself"

As far as I'm concerned they can spell it every which way but loose!

I loved the Ivory Horse.
Out of the mixed up metaphors comes forth brilliance.

And "anaemics" ranks with Craig Brown's "Leading Ineffectuals" in 1966 And All That.

Language does evolve and change.Going home to see family in the N.L. some of the words they use I haven't got a clue what they mean.Never heard of the word Allochtoon meaning foreigner and they use lots of English /American expressions.

Indeed. My pal from Delft, known as the Flying Dutchman because of his regular Limoges-NL commute, says his native language sounds more like a throat complaint!

Nice town Delft famous for the pottery and is it Frans Hals the painter? It takes me a day or so to get used to the gutteral sound and I swear again as a trooper.>:)Limoges Holland a decent run.
