Robert Altman's Nashville DVD Region 2 - Ambo
Can anyone suggest where I might find a copy of the above online please? Amazon and eBay have copies on offer but for Region 1 (USA) only. The UK is of course part of Region 2.

Lovefilm? Or similar.

It can be watched from Lovefilm but not bought. It is a popular film and I don't know why the DVD can't be found in a Region 2 version.

Remember watching Alan Rickman & Juliet Stevenson in Anthony Minghella's rather good 'Truly Madly Deeply' on TV back in the 90s? Well for some reason it's been deleted, so you're looking at £30+ to get held of a (probably pirate) copy now. No idea why they don't reissue it.

Because apparently it has never been released.

Thus there is no answer, I'm afraid, other than to use a Region 1, or to rip & burn your own DVD.

Or wait for it to be shown on television and record it. Have you checked the TV Schedules?

I bet your DVD player will either just play it or can be made to play it easily.

It is not available on region 2 so you're out of luck. Something to do with the BBFC classification still saying AA (Suitable for those aged 14 and older). So it cannot be released on DVD until it is reclassified I guess.

My ancient DVD player (I was an early adopter) has been all regions for years. I've got the idea from its start up process with a disc insertion that it asks the question of the disc, "what region are you?" and then replies, "gosh, so am I".

Be that as it maybe, it certainly plays both R1 and R2 discs.

Every DVD player I've had has had multiregion turned on simpy by some button pressing on the remote. Google for your model and see if you can find it.

We've bought stuff from amazon.com cheaper including shipping than from amazon uk before now, and had stuff from Australia that's only available in their region (4?) and all play fine.

My first DVD player (and it still works well) was bought in 1999 and it was over £500 including have it modified with a chip to make it multi-region. Not long after films were available as region 2 that weren't readily available and a similar price. It's a Sony something or other 725 model.

So assuming the OP doesn't have something as old (but probably not as well made) then he might find the player he has will cope anyway without doing anything. Could get hold of/borrow a region 2 disk of someone to test?

The DVD was to be a present for someone who probably wouldn't be able to work out what regions her player could accommodate. Lovefilm have put it on their list to loan me but marked it Not Currently Released. It did in fact appear on TV some years ago and I watched it then.

If you wish to order it as region 2 and ship it to me, I'll rip it and burn it and send it on to you with one disc as the original region and one without protection which will play on anything.

If you want me to do that, then you'll need to move quickly given international christmas post times.

By all means e-mail me, but no offence taken if you prefer not.
