Travelled along a road for the first time in ages.............site that used to be occupied by a demolition company proudly emblazoned with "Decommissioning Engineers" They still knock buildings down!

That got me thinking.............if you go into a mobile phone shop they do not have sales assistants, they have mobile phone consultants.

One of my sons is a 1st class Hons & is a Chartered Engineer who hires himself out as a consultant. The surgeon who operated on me for 4 hours was a consultant! Different league from a phone shop.

When i started work there were clerks and clerkesses and now they are all Admin Assistants!

How did your job title change in your life?

If they get paid for doing whatever they do - yes!

Our local transparent materials maintenance operative charges a fiver for operating on our liquid transparent fenestral fittings.
He always has a thick bundle of wonga in his pocket, so I guess that makes him not only professional but very successful.

SWMBO was working in a school when plastic dinosaurs were being given away in cereal packets. She took it upon herself to encourage the children to collect them and pass them to her for the collective good use of the school.

She made herself a badge:- palaeontology coordinator. Had to explain it to some of the teachers.

Some of us obviously have experience of Local Government speak...

Beware of motorised passenger conveyances travelling on circular appendages as if your path intersects with theirs you may suffer a life changing experience.

Between college courses and jobseeking, I worked for the county council as a road mender. When I later applied for various career posts as a phytopathologist, I always referred to these periods of employment as a 'civil engineering operative'.
