Can't compete with the mature totty on BBC Breakfast. In order:-
(1)Carole Kirkwood, (2)Louise Minchin & (3) Susanna Reid, closely followed by a plainish lass whose looks and figure are growing on me - Sally Nugent, she of the endless legs!
|
You are not alone. BBC One HD on my Sky box receives local programmes (Inside Out) from the North West. And I'm in Reading. Most disconcerting.
|
On the Sky Box, do you have your postcode entered ?
|
>> On the Sky Box, do you have your postcode entered ?
hes not on Sky he is on Freeview. There is no postcode option on Freeview boxes.
Where is your aerial pointing? its found and tuned the strongest BBC mux above others.
What make is it you may have to manually tune in the weaker mux you want.

Be careful. There are some sensitive souls about. I used the term "dumbo" in jest recently, and a few people took offence on behalf of the intended "victim".

You sure you're not from Yorkshire?

Zookeper,
Do you know which transmitter you normally receive signals from.
East Midlands 70 miles S of Sheffield covers quite a swathe of country. The Belmont transmitter in Lincs, which probably also serves eastern extremity of Notts, certainly used to carry Leeds/Yorkshire local news.
I'd guess your retune has 'latched' onto wrong transmitter, unless a local booster has been swapped from the East Midlands group to Belmont.
|
good call brompto.. i forgot to add that i live in a high rise 15 floors so all the gubbins on the roof ( 20 plus cell phone arials and god knows how many other recievers up there) would that make a difference?
|
If you're on the NE side of Leicester I'd say there's an excellent chance of an aerial being able to see Belmont too from that height. Don't know about other gubbins but signals can be reflected.
Altitude makes a differrence. As kids we lived near Menston in West Yorks. About 500' on a hawse between Airedale and Wharfe. Local terrain meant variable reception from Emley Moor and further down the Wharf side, in Otley, a local booster was justified. This was sited at Clifton.
Worked well in Wharfedale but useless for us as it had same channels as Belmont. Signals arrived out of sync of course and generated lines and screen and a heterodyne whistle on the sound.
You should be fine though, just manually tune to the Waltham frx.

I didn't know you could. So I don't know if I do. Or not.
Ain't life complimicatered?

I sometimes get the opposite problem! - my local region is Granada, but every so often it (Sky-box) reverts to Central, which is neither use nor ornament to me!
To get it back again, I remove the card, turn it off for a few mins, turn it back on again and it asks for the card. Insert card, turn it off for a minute or so, and when it comes on again, all is well! - may help? (I only get Sky free channels - no subscription)

>> is there any way i can re-tune to east midlands news ?
Try manually retuning it instead of letting it do it automatically.

thanks guys...eeh by eck looks like i will have to manually re-tune to the waltham transmitter 'appen before i turn fully eckythump............

Lucky you. I live in rural N Yorks and I cannot get YTV on my Freeview telly. Nor can anyone else in my part of the world. We're stuck with Granada, as if we give a stuff about the Mersey Tunnel and goings on in Lancashire.

Others up there years ago used to get Tyne-Tees from Bilsdale mast.

even so if i tune in to itv regional they spew nonsence about birmingham and telford you cant win

It's like that here too. We're in South Northants but get Anglia TV/BBC East from Sandy Heath. It does cover Northampton news but mostly Essex and Suffolk. Alternative would be West Midlands from Sutton Coldfield or whatever Oxford has.

The days when you could multiplex aerials pointing different directions and easily tune in a choice of regional programes to suit are long gone.
Freesat is good tho, you get all the regionals at the end of the channel band numbering. Take your pick.

I wish I could get Waltham, but I'm positioned directly behind Bardon Hill so have to use with Sutton Coldfield and all get the news from Brum!
Some useful info here regarding transmitters, with frequencies and bearings etc:
www.digitaluk.co.uk/postcodechecker/
Enter your postcode and tick the "detailed view" box, which gives extra info for aerial installers.

Either move to Hull, and/or kidnap Anne Diamond and keep her in your garage...either of those options is probably easier than trying to fix your Freeview box.

Check what direction your aerial needs to point in order to receive signals from your required transmitter. www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

My blooming freesat receiver (an old PACE SKY box) defaults to ITV London. Who cares about London, that cesspit? Not I.

That's ok, it doesn't give a ? about you either.
|
In my first home, many years ago, on the crest of a high hill in Bradford, overlooking the Aire valley, I had a choice of YTV, Granada, Tyne Tees and a couple of Midlands channels.
And snow.And wind.Lots of ice.
Bracing tha knows it were.
|
>>Who cares about London, that cesspit
And which fine city do you live next to or in?
|
Despite living oop North, I really enjoy visiting London. The hustle & bustle, world class museums and exhibitions, people watching, architecture. Two long weekends a year are most enjoyable, although a cheap Keighley curry and proper Timmy Taylors at £2.30 a pint are welcome retreat.
|
Nearest city is Sheffield - not too bad a place, but most cities are places to avoid if possible.
I shall, however, be travelling there tomorrow to have my 6 week check-up from the back cutter!
Afterwards no doubt, we will (by command of SWMBO) visit another awful place , Meadowhall, or Meadowhell, as most men know it!
At least the parking is free!

Very good, Bill, I didn't look at it properly yesterday - I like the Slag Heaps and the Soft Southern Shi'ites.
