And it still has saggy rippled looking seats like a pair of old pants!

I'd rather have the one below it :-)

I'm impressed that it's 'Not currently stolen'. I wonder if that status is updated in real time.

Steep price for what looks an immaculate car.
That model was very quick indeed but its (also very quick) handling caught quite a few drivers out. It's a lot of money for a tweaked bread-and-butter jalopy.
Not enough for a proper Talbot though, not for a runner anyway. I hoped the OP would be about one of those 'needing restoration'. No such luck.
|
Presumably you mean the Talbot Lotus Sunbeam? There must be very few survivors as they rightly acquired a name by about 1985/6 for rusting to bits. Someone I knew was offered one which must only have been about 5 years old at the time and really, wanted reshelling then.
Goodness knows what it's really worth, other than the obvious "whatever somebody wants to pay". I believe they are a super car to drive, but for that money, you can get a seriously concours RS2000 and have some money over to keep it that way.
|
Only 1150 right hand drive cars were built...
And it used a rather unreliable Lotus engine (funny the ad does not mention it)...
I would be surprised if the 1150were sold at anything like the full price.
If it was a dog, its ancestry would be described as "mongrel"
It's worth £5k for the engine and scrap for the body..
|
>> It's worth £5k for the engine and scrap for the body..
Of course its not, the fact its still survived makes rocking horse sheet look common. Really, how many of those are still anywhere near tidy.
It is of course, as above, worth what someone will pay for it, and if I had 10 grand pocket money and a dry garage I would home it.

Nice car, albeit a left hooker, put in a bid for £10k on behalf of Humph's pension fund.

>> Nice car, albeit a left hooker,
They all were, that was the only flavour.

I was stopped by an unmarked Police one of these in Moss Side in 78 - I jumped a traffic light. Took a lot of sweet talking to get out of that. Two female Police Officers....

I had temporary custody of one for about three months in the late 70s, fabulous little motor.

You had your own police woman?

No takers for the Isettas?
bmw Isetta 600 limo microcar. Is that the LWB version?
or a pink one at what price???

The foreign (Polish?) registration may be a deal breaker though.

I got severely spanked by one of those in the Trossachs one summer's night a very long time ago. I was in my Mk2 Cavalier Sri. he clearly wanted to, er, well, you know, "see who was quickest" and I didn't notice that it was the Lotus version...It was quick for the time. Very quick actually. Only reason I managed to stick with him for a while was that he was a bit of a feardie on the corners. You live and learn.
:-)
|
The Lotus was bit better handler 'out of the box' than the Escort at the time as you will see that it has a wheel at each corner. Made its mark on the rally circuit.

The reg number of the vehicle featured in the article is very close to the one on offer.

Some clown will pay for the Talbot. Look what the 30-year-rule has done to prices of souped-up tat like XR Fords that might have a bit of sporting history.
Taken off the road at four years old?
Have you had a look at the website? Looks like a right posh boys' palace. Strange to me that they've been in business all this time and I don't ever remember seeing an ad from them before.
And Knaresborough? With the greatest respect to my friends from the North, what are they doing selling stock like that so far from the City of London? Years ago, in a coach on the way to a John Player League match at Scarborough my pal said 'I think we just passed a signpost that said Knackersbury'.

Might be a bit slower, but £5.5k would get you a barely run-in XR3i:

EDIT: ...and it's a Reading number; ooh I'm tempted...

If thats as advertised.......... nice toy.

For no good reason that I can tell you, that car doesn't feel right.
The Turbo sticker is strange - doesn't seem like the behaviour of the sort of person who would own that particular car - could have been stuck on by offspring I guess.

Yes, that did strike me as a bit odd.
As mentioned previously my mum had a mk1 1.1 Fiesta, which was yellow. For some reason she let my sister put various stickers on it, at random places on the bodywork.
Of course by the time mum came to sell it, all the paint except the patches under the stickers had faded. So when said stickers were removed, the effect was quite, er, interesting...
|
Regarding the OP, if you filter Autotrader to select other cars at £25k, there is an interesting collection including a Jensen Interceptor and a Masarati Marek.
I know what I'd rather spend £25 big ones on.

>>Some clown will pay for the Talbot<<
Thinking of putting my Lancer up for £19,950 - you never know :}

I think you got a typo there Bonzo........didn't you mean £19.95 ?
