Why is the air brake hose which connects the tractor unit to the trailer called a suzie?
|
Pleas allow me my moment of pedantry:)
It is susie with an s and not a z!
Earliest reason could be that the coiled type were first invented by sir Edward suzenderger british mother and german father in the late 1940s.
But more likely because it was originally a SUSpended Insulated Electrical lead, shortened to Susie lead at some point, as we tend to do with our language.
From there air lines and electrical lines all became known as susies.

Was he also one of the first trans-gender Truckies as well? - he may have used Sussie`s and Hose whilst driving his truck and waiting for the op!

Er... how long exactly do we have to wait for this revelation? Surely you feel fully at home by now Pat?
Perhaps we won't like you when we know what you're really like.
Speaking for myself though, I think I do already. You may think you're opaque but you're transparent really.

Yes, I do feel at home and among friends, but a very different type of friends than those I've spent the last 30 years with.
This means I frequently sit on my fingers instead of typing my thoughts.
I miss the banter, I think Z is the only one who will throw an insult at me in the manner I'm used to without worrying I will take offence.
I certainly don't get involved in a lot of threads I would like to, because I would be asked to 'support my opinion with facts' and I haven't the time or inclination to do that.
I'm more used to sitting around on the bumper flap of a Scania of an evening with a bunch of opinionated lorry drivers putting the world to rights.
Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy reading those threads and watching them progress.
You'd never find me on mums.net or housewives.com:)

Thank you Pat. I'd heard of mumsnet, but not housewives.com.
Well goodness me. I'm sure they'd be a lot better off with a paperback.
Still trying to work out what an encoutner is.

I do not throw insults. Each one is a carefully constructed work of art, delicately lobbed with precision. Its a gift, a craft. I would appreciate better critical acclaim than "thrown"
Thank you.

I would have expected better of you Z.
You wait till you think I'm in the Cotswolds without a signal to reply?
Is that what you mean by 'timed'?
Be careful....my trusty dongle may only have a green light, I may have to sit and wait for 5 minutes for each thread to open, but I have patience......:)
