I must admit I have noticed in the past that Fridays seems to be a slow day for posts.

I am sure the figures are there somewhere...maybe everyone is on their holidays and also one prolific poster flounced recently ......

On a more general point, I wonder about the popularity of forums in general.

Is it on the up, stable, or in decline?

Well, funny you should say that. I used to post on quite a lot ( well maybe half a dozen ) forums once upon a time but very rarely do so now other than here. I found that I'd become semi addicted to online chat and had to force myself to break the habit as it was taking up too much time which should have been spent on "real life". I've stayed here because by and large it seems one of the best balanced for intelligent and also humourous lightweight chat loosely based on cars which is an interest of mine. I dislike the confrontational tendency one finds on many forums and indeed we are not immune from that here, but usually it seems that most rub along with each other well enough.

I do find myself repeating things I've said before though and sometimes wonder if I have anything useful left to contribute but selfishness and self indulgence wins out eventually and I post anyway !

What does amuse me is that it soon becomes apparent that no matter how well a point of view may indeed repeatedly be argued by someone, that it clearly makes not one jot of difference to the opinion of those with opposing or at least different views.

The cyclist haters continue to hate cyclists, the TDCi loathers continue mistrust them, the truck revilers grumble away unswayed, the diesel lovers continue their romance with heavy oil and so on.

What a glorious waste of effort ! Still, we'll no doubt all continue to fight our personal corners secure in the knowledge that we are right and that some disembodied keyboard stroker with a silly online name is quite wrong, ignorant and more than possibly also severely deranged.

It's a bit like going to the pub. You know that most of the time you and everyone else will be talking rubbish but just occasionally, someone says something or relates some information which you find actually useful, amusing or interesting.
