Is this not one of the most gorgeous designs ever?

Very pretty car that. Sort of thing AC would drive if he had Lud's money of course !

I visit there quite a bit. I'll take me camera next time and ask nicely if I can have a nose.

Do they let you park the Mondeo in the car park, or do you have to leave it around the corner and walk?

I think it looks odd.

The Embiricos Bentley is a handsome car, no doubt about it. I am surprised it is just a 4.25 litre, but no doubt it went well.

Special Rolls Royces had to be expensive though. Only for the very rich.

I have an Embiricos story but I don't think it's for here.

"I am surprised it is just a 4.25 litre, but no doubt it went well."

Oh yes, it did!

"The Bentley Embiricos managed to hit a top speed of 114.64 mph (184.5 km/h) at Brooklands, while the owner drove it on a daily basis as a road car. It was sold later on in 1939 to H.S.F who took it to three 24-hour Le Mans races after WW II, managing to finish on the sixth spot during the 1949 edition."

I'm with WP here; it's certainly distinctive but there's a bit too much going on.

Put it this way.

I'm glad it exists, I'm glad people built interesting, quirky cars....but, if all my numbers came up, it wouldn't be in my garage. ...and there's plenty that would be, i'd be a hoarder.

I could not agree more. I quite like it myself, though that's a different thing to actually wanting it.

I don't think I'd push it out of my garage to let anything built in the last ten years or so in. I find recent modern styling utterly bland and soul-less.

Same here. I sort of had an idea of what cars would look like in the future, influenced by various sci-fi films, but now all these Euro clone cars are actually happening sooner than I thought, I don't like it. Totally bland. A friend of mine said that as cars need to get more efficient, they all begin to take on the same appearance in order to be the optimum shape aerodynamically.

I do like the use of LED lights on modern cars, but not always the dubious way they are used in the styling.

Is that all? Most Fiestas will do that.

Maybe he should have rebodied an Astra van:-)

Long time ago Gastropod. I do remember pictures of that Bentley at Le Mans in the very early fifties. The Mk VI Bentley made post-war had a version of that engine and wouldn't quite pull 100mph on the flat. The R Type had a 4.5 litre engine and would just pull 105, although the R Type Continental had higher gearing, was aerodynamic by cathedral-like RR standards and could do 120.

So apart from that gorgeous one-off body, the Embiricos machine was evidently heavily tweaked as well.

The Embiricoses were rich Greek shipowners and ship brokers who were members of thirties high society in London.

Come on Mr Snail. When that car was built all Fords had archaic sidevalve engines - and did for decades afterwards. And don't even talk about contemporary driver aids like windscreen wipers.

I wouldn't compare a modern Bentley with a Fiesta either (except that they are both ugly).
