Anyone heard the Cuckoo this year. Can't say I have. Coin is still in the pocket waiting to turn over at the sound of the first Cuckoo.

Heard one in Norfolk Broads area.
They need all the help they can get.

Heard one here early one morning in April.

They appeared a little later than usual in our garden this year (we usually get them in April, but this year it was about the 5th of May). Likewise, we didn't hear as much of them as usual.
But I'm not complaining. It is possible to get too much of a good thing.

They can be irritating little tweets. Sort of reminds me of that song "I know a song that'll get on your nerves" !

What cuckoos? Nothing beats the collared dove for sheer monotonous mind numbing irritation.

Clearly you've never met my mother in law.

It's a bit late now!
The Cuckoo comes in April
In May it begins to sing
June it begins to stutter and
July it flies away.
In the Fen we usually hear them but not this year.

It sings its song in May
In the middle of June it changes tune
And in July it flies away.
Much more mellifluous...and exactly what happens in this part of France.
We don't hear enough of them for it to be a nuisance - which the doves and the frogs definitely are.

|
If you don't like the frogs - move back to Britain! :-)
|
Well, I admit to having to google mellifluous ....
I still prefer my version spoken with a broad Fennie accent.
