Just getting some insurance quotes and they're asking for 'Claims and convictions' for other driver (Mrs F). Daft question but does that include stuff on their own policy (which there is), not just ones made on my policy while they were driving my car (which there isn't)?
I've always assumed it does, but no harm double checking - some of the wording makes it sound like it's only claims made on my policy.

They are inquiring about ANY claims and convictions not just those to specific policies.

Thought so - thanks FC.
Another one - I've got protected no claims on my current policy, but is that only protected while I stay with my current insurer (esure)? That is, I had a claim a couple of years ago (with esure), so in the 'how many years no claims discount do you have' box, do I have to put '2'?
|
It's probably more than two, depending on what you had at the time of the claim and how much Esure penalized you for making it - which probably didn't take you back to zero. I think this varies, but your Esure renewal letter from the end of that year should tell you, and then you can add the claim-free years you've had since.

Thanks WDB. I've now actually looked at my renewal documents... :)
It does state "Motor premium after deducting 18 years' (75%) NCD and NCD protection for the life of your policy", which is good. But would it definitely say 18 years on my proof of NCD if I cancelled the policy, and not 2?

Yes. That letter would be enough evidence for any insurer I've dealt with, anyway.

how far do you have to go back when asked about convictions? 5 years or is it more for more serious offences like drunk/drug driving?

DD bans stay for 10 yrs IIRC

I think in the form I was filling in there was one question for accidents, which was 5 years, then another one for convictions, but I don't remember if there was a limit for those.

I'm sure the wording is "any claims, motoring convictions or accidents in the last 5 years". There's usually a question about unspent criminal convictions too, DD is a criminal as well as a motoring offence so must declared in that category.
FWIW A DD conviction shows up on a CRB check too.
