This is quite clever. Give it a try.

Because footage from Google Earth is used? For about 2 seconds.

might work ok if you live in the Mall, but I dont think the pilot would get even his car in our street!
Nice idea, but I get a blank background with an apology for having no image!
Wouldn't get down my road anyway, what with all the school mums parking all over the place oblivious to the chaos they are causing
...what with all the school mums parking all over the place...
Aye, but I bet one or two of them are dead fit.
The pilot obviously thought better of trying to get down our lane - "no imagery available".
An electricity board helicopter did better though, and landed in our field checking for line faults.

Actually the majority are quite pleasing on the eye. One of my colleagues is quite envious as he says none of the mums are on his school run :-)
Seems to have got down our little road ok, although as pointed out above you don't see much of it. Still quite clever.
I just showed Nicole.
"How did they get the plane down our road"? was the comment.
Women drivers, eh?
(I'll get me coat...)
I'll have to change one of my standard insults now
"I could get a Double deck bus Jumbo Jet through there"
I can't quite work out how it coped with the cattle grids up in Warleggan on the Bodmin Moor?
There is a Cuckoo's nest up the BTW (cuckoo, cuckoo!)
Superb. Curiously as some of the streets near me are already filmed, they just wouldn't be as practical as my own...
Very good. Clear image of Kath over the road's Audi. But even a Cessna would need wing watchers to taxi round our cul de sac.
Would be interesting to track it using www.flightradar24.com/.
Used yesterday to follow Miss B's return from Burgas to Manchester after hol with Uni mates. Coasted in over North Lincs then seemed to wander all over West Riding and Lancs. Thought for a mo they'd diverted to Leeds at which point the a/c enthusiast in me kicked in and opened the AIP; BGH5529 was following the precise track of a ROSUN standard arrival to MAN.

Got that on my iPhone. You point the phone at the plane you see int he sky and gives you the flight number and details!
No I-phone but it's a fascinating addition to binos and scanners.
I know a few people at BA and it would be fair to say they're rather pleased with this advert. I can't help wishing they'd used a 747, though - rather last-century but still the plane that wears the BA colours best, Concorde excepted of course.
One other thought struck me: most airline adverts show improbably youthful 'execs' savouring the pleasures of the front end. Here we're firmly in the cheap seats, without even an attempt to pretend that your multimedia entertainment screen is more than six inches from your face.
I guess the 777 is the most modern aircraft in their fleet at the moment (until they take delivery of their A380's)
The 777 is a very good aircraft
Two Military jets have just buzzed over the house, when I looked on www.flightradar24.com/.
there was no sign of them. If Flightradar is Radar based, why weren`t they picked up? Tornado`s (Euro-fighters) dont employ stealth do they?
Barclays executives fleeing the country?
THat website is not using it's own radar. It's using the readily available info on planes' location, speed etc. There's are quite a few sites.
I looked at that sight earlier and realised there were a couple of planes coming into Manchester that weren't on there either. And these were Embraer or similar.
Just looked at the flight radar website - they are always looking for more people with receivers to send data that's picked up from the planes.
www.flightradar24.com/.
Tried this last night, Whilst on here I noticed that there would be a plane coming over us in about 5mins. When it looked to be here I went outside, it was far too cloudy to see anything, but it was definitely there I could hear it! - amazing!

Does seem to be pretty much real time. Can listen on the scanner and hear ATC give a heading change or descent and watch it happen!!

Eh?
Iffy,
AIP = Aeronautical Information Publication. BGH = flight number
Standard Arrival Route (STAR) to Manchester airport via the ROSUN (probably a contraction of Rossendale) hold/waypoint tinyurl.com/82p3v6j
As a teenager I was a plane spotter and remain fascinated by how stuff is done in the air.

So I've looked at that Flight Radar a few times. Up still working etc and can hear planes.
There's a flight (Ryanair 3225) that that website showed. But the airport said landed. It's done a loop and now the airport says it's on approach. Wonder why it aborted landing. I will probably never know but heard it go past faintly hence taking a look.
Plane went down our street looks good..;)
Not for long Dutchie! when they close it for kids ;-)
Flightradar.com is brill - just downloaded the iPad app. brilliant, can't wait for the clouds to go away to track planes as they fly across Anglesey. Uncanny watching them on the map and then listening to them fly over....
Reminds me a bit of Dr Strangelove though !
Tis very addictive! if you follow one in to land, zooming in as you go, you can actually see it land on the runway, and at certain times follow it right up to the gate as it taxi`s!! - Manchester is good for this!
Yes it's a good site/app :-) I've double checked accuracy by looking out for them earlier this week. Some planes not on the site though that were coming into Manchester.
As I said above one Ryanair flight did not land and looped around again when I happened to look a few nights ago. Wonder what happened to the plane... Manchester airport showed as landed and then shortly afterwards back on approach.
I expect it would have much the same effect as counting sheep on me...
Apparently (according to the "About" tab) they need to be fitted with an ADS-B Transponder to show, a lot of older models dont have them yet.
It was some of the smaller planes that did not appear - like Embraer's or similar. That explains that.
Okay this is interesting me too much so I'll stop looking. But apart from smaller airlines not operating large planes like a 747.... is it not more cost effective for Jet2 to fly something bigger between Dalaman and Manchester tonight instead of two 757's. Both arriving in the next 20 minutes. Wouldn't you stagger them to offer better times if you're using two planes?
if jet2 have about 600 passengers to fetch back they would probably need 2x757`s (300 each) as opposed to a 747 (500) and another plane. They are probably 20mins apart due to airport slots available.
Can't access flightradar24 at the moment - anyone else?

The mapping is working fine - the info pane if blank though.
I managed to get one window open, but clicking on the link again I got a 'problem loading page'. Something wrong somewhere.
working perfectly again now! - planes everywhere! ;-)
I cleared my browser history and now it's working a lot better.
Strange thing spotted - well known around here that civil aircraft are routed across the "island" over weekends and Bank Holidays. Not so today - why ? Is it because Crab Air are flying this weekend ? (they are) Wonder if it's because of the bad weather (nice today) and training hours have become a premium at RAF Valley ?

You`ve a couple coming your way now! - but otherwise I cant see much route disruption elsewhere. The American/Canadians are still leaving by the Southport/Blackpool corridor as usual. Noticed on the "Stats" yesterday (manchester( that 80% of take-offs/ landings are NE-SW, and only 20% are SW-NE, yesterday was one of those rarer days!

Watch the video again guys, at around 10 secs, the plane is heading down the M4 exactly the same place as the current roadworks, tell the authorities so they can send BA the bill
If you have Google-Earth installed, you can take advantage of a "New" feature of Flight-Radar24! - There is now a "fly-behind" view, which I suppose is supposed to give a "Cock-pit" view.
I thought it may be interesting at take-off/landings, so, having tracked a few in, I`ve yet to get one to land on the Runway! Well I suppose it is only Beta yet, and a few tweaks may be necessary but it certainly puts a different spin on B777 Taxiing Up Your Street ;-)
