Amazed at how Fish & chips have gone up (6p in 1960 and £4.50 in 2009 - 7400% change)
About £6.50 in our village now but I stopped in a town near Aberdeen the other evening and ordered F&C thinking it might be cheaper and fresher than in E Midlands what with being close to Aberdeen, Peterhead and Frazerburgh, all fishing ports. £8.80!!!!!!!! And the portion wasn't as big as our local chippy in Barrow on Soar!!
But then I also remember serving people at a petrol station when I were a lad - they would ask for 4 gallons and get change from a quid - and I would check oil, water, tyres for them (not washer fluid - no cars (?) had washers then).
Also had a mate who won £500 on premium bonds in 1967. He had a relation who worked at Mini plant and got a brand new one (discounted) for his £500.
