Lottery App on iPhone doesn't work with my MIFI - VxFan
As per subject header.

It works with my home WIFI, AN Other's WIFI, a 3G and 2G mobile phone signal.

I've tried uninstalling it and reloading it from the App store using the MIFI device in the hope of it recognising the MIFI device when I launch the App, but it still doesn't work with the MIFI.

The MIFI is using a 3 network SIM, if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions? I've tried googling, btw but not found anything.

In what way does it not work?

I would find out the IP address (by using tracert) that its trying to contact and then ping it. Then I would connect my laptop to the net via the mifi and then ping it.

You will need to get some network tools on your iPhone for the ping and the tracert.

Sorry, should have mentioned. The Lottery logo appears on the phone, then sits there for approx 20 seconds before crashing and returning to the home page with all the other Apps on the phone screen.

Try the MiFi connecting to the National Lottery site from a computer. Could it be 3 are not letting you access the site properly from a mobile phone perspective (the SIM) because it's a gambling website? I'd rule that out before worrying about the app.

I can look at the lottery website using the Safari browser on the phone. Up until now there have been no restrictions that I'm aware of. eg, gambling & porn browsing, sickipedia App, etc.

it could be insufficient bandwidth.

Why would it still work on a 2G signal though if that was the case?

< Shrug > Unless you do the network diagnostics you will never know.

They are probably trying to save you money!

As a non Lottery ticket buyer myself, I am amused by signs inviting one to "Check Your lucky Lottery Numbers".

You could report them to The Advertising Standards Authority for attempting to obtain money by false pretences. There is a far greater likelihood that the tickets will be losing tickets.

Bah! Humbug!

The National Lottery website, and presumably therefore the app, won't work from outside the UK. Does it think you are elsewhere and could that be caused by network routing, since that seems to be the only uncommon factor?

Are you using Onavo? A bit of googling suggested that might cause a problem with sites that validate your location.

As I mentioned above, I can access the Nat Lottery website via the phone's web browser. You might be onto something though as one of my other Apps uses location services and when I use the MIFI device, it puts "null" as my current location. Using 3G and AN Other WIFI puts the correct location in.

>> Are you using Onavo?

No. IIRC, that uses a 3G signal, which I'm not directly doing. The MIFI device is using a 3G signal, but fooling the iPhone into receiving a WIFI signal.

I guess its possible, but I doubt they would use GPS location services to find out if you are int he UK, they are more likely just to use the host router of your ISP, known as your point of presence. Thats how most content providers work.
