Like others I may have my prejudices and misconceptions about Liverpool which certainly would not be at the top of my list as choice of destination for a two day break.
Well how wrong I was. We stayed at a hotel near the Pier (Ferry Cross the Mersey) and visited all the local attractions, museums etc on the front and ventured round the nearby shops in Liverpool 1. Very cosmopolitan indeed. Still didn't get to see everything. It is quite evident that a lot has been invested in regenerating the area to a high standard.
Despite being a bit 'Beatled' out I only saw one tracksuit - no shellsuits, I wasn't robbed, my alloys were left untouched and I heard no one shouting 'calm down now'.
Yes I can recommend Liverpool for a short break.

Wholeheartedly agree - been there more often in the last three years than in the previous 30 - I had one business trip there...

You've had a nice break and why not.Nothing wrong with Liverpool.First time for me in Liverpool about fifty years ago when Liverpool still had the main shipping docks.We've booked a two day stay in Bradford in the next couple of weeks.

Liked Liverpool the first time I had a visit in 1990. Been a few times since and more recently quite a few times. It's worth a visit. Especially if it's fairly local - I class it as local as it's only 40 or so miles away.

....Not forgetting of course that Liverpool was 2008 European Capital of Culture.
You can't achieve that status unless you have an impressive set of Museums, Galleries, Parks and a Musical Life. Liverpool has more than the 60's pop culture too - it has a good classical Orchestra, the Philharmonic.
Our mayor may have slagged off Liverpool, but not all Londoners have a negative view of the city - quite the reverse!

I have fond memories of Liverpool going back 63 years to docking there in 1950; then later going from there to Dun Laoghaire several times as a third class ferry passenger; later still, in the plutocratic sixties, letting my then gf drive my car on the empty wet cobbles of the Scotland Road late at night, staying in the Adelphi hotel; and other snippets.

I have always liked Liverpool and now it has been regenerated it is a great city. I tend to need to travel through it about twice a year but last year I spent several hours there and was impressed with the regeneration of the city.

They are probably all in Torquay - last time I made the mistake of going there it was packed with them !

Don't miss Liverpool Cathedral (England's largest - and the world's seventh largest) and the spectacular Georgian streets behind it; possibly Britain's best Georgian townscape.

A village near us were up in arms because the council were planning to build a wind farm nearby and there were concerns about the noise. The villagers were offered a week's stay in Liverpool free of charge to get used to the constant whining.

I have just remembered that on arriving in Liverpool in 1950 after three years abroad, my father pointed out the Royal Liver building with its four bronze 'Liver birds' and told me that they were reputed to flap their wings when a woman of unsullied virtue passed in front of the building.
As I was only 10 at the time this information was almost meaningless to me.

I've lived here in 9 decades and there's only been two of them each time I've looked. Mind you the ale was stronger in the 50's.
The wings are still flapping furiously, though!

In Manchester, there is loads of them here too, although in this part of Manchester they tend to be posh well educated scousers so they only have a slight twang.
I haven't ever noticed any scousers in Torquay.
There are loads of them in North Wales though, to the extent where the lead singer of Echo and the Bunneymen frequents one of my locals in Anglesey.
