Went shopping yesterday in a market town nearby and parked in a council run car park which during weekdays is reserved for employees only and opened up on a weekend for 'pay and display'.
Now for some reason I didn't double check the conditions as I thought the car park was free on a Saturday because it is on a Sunday.
Went about my shopping and returned. As I entered the car park I noticed one of those little Stazi storm troopers in a civil enforcement uniform, carrying some hand held device that would have fitted nicely in a dark place with a bit of persuasion, with a self satisfied grin on his face.
It was at that point the realisation set in. I had probably been his target as he disappeared out of view. I'm sure he was running. Maybe knew I had just bought a small axe.
Sure enough there it was in that little yellow plastic bag.
£50 or £25 for prompt payment.
My fault I know. But what grips is that I usually pay my way and have shovelled a vast amount of cash through hospital machines recently.
I'm sure the Chief Exec will enjoy his pay rise. I'm not bitter you understand.
I know I can rely on the sympathy vote here :-S

Not nice my symphathy.Picked my betterhalve up this morning from church.Tickett slapped on one of the cars young couple whith a small child.Either they forgot to buy a tickett or it fell down from the dashboard with the wind.

You say 'council run', was the ticket issued by the local authority, or by a private company?
If the former, pay up. If the latter, take advice.
|
Iffy's ticket died a death.
|
Issued by Local Authority.
|
>> My be worth appealing. They can cock up.

Quite honestly, if they park at a place with all those consonants and only one vowel, they deserve all they get!
;-)
|
...Issued by Local Authority...
Which makes it legally enforceable, so ignoring it is not a good idea.
On t'other hand, the appeals process is genuine, so you will get a fair hearing, although not necessarily the result you seek.
On the outlined facts, I would pay the £25.
|
Easily done!
Have a look at the sign. If it is anyway confusing it is worth an appeal!

Yesterday must have been the day for it. Sailed through a speed camera in a 30 zone at an indicated 38 mph. It's a road I know well, I know the camera is there. Moment of brain fade. Saw the double flash in the mirror, so my only hope now is there is no film in it. I think this is somehow unlikely.
In six months I could have said I'd had a clean license for 20 years. Fiddlesticks! :-(

Fingers crossed then. I was snapped by a red light camera, but received no NIP. I deserved it, and have since taken care to not jump a red light.
|
Your area not arrived in the digital combined speed and red light camera age yet?
|
>> Your area not arrived in the digital combined speed and red light camera age yet?
I assume not. It was a clear violation by me, so no film is the only explanation I can see.
There are loads of mobile speed cameras around at the moment. I assume plod are trying to catch anyone who speeds in wet weather, and discouraging anyone else. I can't say I disagree with this.

50 quid? Pah Pathetic.
Last week I parked in Hackney. Found a 4 hour meter and shovelled in 9 squids of geld into its greedy little slit.
Placed non sticky ticket on dash (over the vent) right way up. Upon return I find a ticket from Hackneys finest, and a ticket on the dash the wrong way up. How that happened is anyones guess.
50 quid? The FPN is ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY POUNDS. 65 quid if paid within 14 days. I have appealed, sending off my valid (but incorrectly displayed) ticket.
|
Proper cars have a little plastic clip for car park tickets on the windscreen. Avoids this sort of usury.
|
The local rag has recently reported that 3,300 speeding tickets have been issued since the cameras were switched on in late October, on the average speed section of the M90 roadworks.
I have seen a few who slow down to 40 for the cameras, obviously they have trouble with the concept of average. :-)

What about clips on the outside of the screen for parking tickets?
:-D

I got an overstay ticket in a Pay & Display car park in Oxford a couple of years ago. We were about a mile from the car when I realised the ticket was about to expire. I left the family and friends in the restaurant we were in, and walked back to the car to put another ticket on it. When I got there, I realised I'd left the car keys with SWMBO!! Cue much swearing. In the end, I decided to chance it and stick the new ticket on the outside of the windscreen. I stuck it under the wiper to secure it, and headed back.
Sure enough, on return there was a Penalty Charge Notice stuck to the windscreen. My first thought was someone had nicked the ticket, but there it was, exactly where I'd left it. The attendant had clearly spotted the old ticket, and failed to notice the new one.
Given Oxford Council's contempt for the motorist is probably matched only by Ken Livingstone's, I wasn't holding out much hope, but I took a photocopy of the ticket, and sent the original, together with a covering letter explaining the situation, to the address on the PCN. I was astonished to receive not only a very nice letter saying the penalty had been cancelled, but an actual apology for the inconvenience! :-)

They do have people who respond correctly if you make a succinct and convincing case. You sometimes have to insist a bit though. The initial response is often dismissive.
All the bureaucracy is very dispiriting though. Even when you have managed to keep it up you quail at the thought of claiming for the cost of three or four first class stamps and in some cases recorded delivery.
This crap is often imposed on innocent motorists by Livingstonian jobsworths and carphounds paid - more than I earn probably, with pension rights - to do nothing else.
Enough to make a chap run off and join Farc or El Qaeda, knowImean?

Worth a go.
The enforcement officer will have taken several pics of your car and the ticket as displayed.
If the serial number is visible, the appeals tribunal will know you had a valid ticket.
I believe the offence, strictly, is made out by failing to display correctly.
But that doesn't stop the tribunal finding in your favour, should it have a mind to do so.
A good tip is to carry a bit of blu-tack in the car to attach the ticket to the dash.

I think Iffy is right and the Traffic Penalty Tribunal seem to have found similarly.

The silver tongued devil strikes again. Letter in post from Hackney this am, FPN cancelled.
|
>> The silver tongued devil strikes again.
Did you get the cost of postage reimbursed? That's an important consideration for a pensioner. And something between a drink and an actual bung for pain and distress perhaps. Go on, I dare you.
|
You might as well swing by pepipoo.com and see what they think.
From having a browse there, it seems that the Local Authorities often make untold numbers of errors, that can invalidate these tickets.
If everything looks compliant, then at least you still have time to pay the reduced amount.

Well, it happened.
Call from the lease company this morning. They have the NIP. Camera did me at 35 in a 30.
Missed my two decade clean license by 7 months.
Grrr...

would have thought you will be in shape for a speed awareness course on those numbers, costly but your licence stays clean

I hope you get the offer too.
I was hoping for the same when i got caught in me truck doing 46 on a NSL A road roughly 2006, unfortunately it was West Mercia so no course offered, whether that has changed since then i hope not to find out, i'm fairly certain i had a clean run prior to that since about the late 70's or very early 80's...pure luck though never made any claims to obey the limits on the open road.
Keeping to 40 on that particular road would cause suicidal overtakes, chicken or egg.

Thirteen days into the 14 day NIP period!
If its from Thames Valley, you will get offered the SAC
|
>> Thirteen days into the 14 day NIP period!
>>
The 14 day rule doesn't apply to cars registered to leasing companies.
|
yes it does, it needs to get to the leasing company within 14 days.
|
RTA applies to everyone even leasing companies, they will be the registered keepers, they are obliged to furnish the name of the "user" at the time of the alleged offence.
|
>> yes it does, it needs to get to the leasing company within 14 days.
>>
rolleyes: OK - but the driver doesn't need to be notified within the 14 day limit as he/she would if they were the RK.
|
< pokes BP in the eye >
The point I was making was it made its way to the registered keeper, 13 days into the 14 day period.
|
I am attending a Speed Awareness Course on 20th July. It's run by the AA on behalf of Thames Valley Police.
£95 begrudgingly paid, but at least it keeps the license clean. Trying desperately to go into it with an open mind. :-)
|
I was quite aware of speed in the 60's funnily enough ... pot and acid too come to think about it!
|
it will be mostly women on the course.....mark my words
|
No it won't, might be my son, he is a serial attender.
