I am still looking around for a new / low mileage car on Autotrader
Just browsing yesterday I came across Mazda CX5 2.5 4x4 petrol
2.5 year old, low mileage cars are around £31K - there were 4/5 for sale.
Coincidentally I received an email from a Broker for September New Reg offers
The list price of the top of the range Takumi model is over £41,000
The discounted price is a bit over £36K - you pay the dealer and are the 1st owner of the car - not pre-reg/fleet registered etc etc
Comparison of £36+K brand new top of the range model or £31K for a lower spec 2.5 year old 10K+ miles
I rest my case - can there be a "pricing market" where all the dealers fail to compete.

There seems to be a large price difference between 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive. Do you really need 4 wheel drive?

I have had a 4WD car for 16 years.
I am still looking for another 4WD car as I have sometimes to make unexpected / longish journeys at the drop of a hat.
In the depths of winter it snows in Scotland and 4WD helps.

Runfer will be along soon with tales of his snowy adventures in his Stuttgart taxi :-)

I bought my new CX-5 2.2 AWD Takumi in polymetal grey and took delivery on 3rd April. Total cost with a few extras was £39,995.

Is £40k still a cutoff point for road tax costs?

Funny how what goes around comes back around.
In autumn 2000 we were looking for a new car, the Citroen Xantia Estate was the model of choice. At the time it was being replaced by the C5 and runout deals were a thing.
Local dealer's branch in Wolverton had an ex-demo, approx 6 month old, in modest trim and with a 90PS engine. Price was £11,500. Wouldn't shift.
Dealer in Surrey was offering, via ads in the Telegraph, brand new versions with a 110PS engine for £12-£13,000 depending on colour/trim.
Guess which one we got??

Yes but it's the list price that is used, not the transaction price.
