Wasn't there a similar photo on here some time ago involving a bus? :-)

The car, however, suffered 12,000 euros (£8,600) worth of damage.

That's just the value of the car, isn't it? Write-off presumably.

Gunner ignore that.

The tyres on the Yaris look pretty skinny?

If it transpires that the Yaris was running on winter tyres that will obviously have been the cause of the accident.

Still plenty of tread on the tank tracks.

I wonder if they'll Challenger in court?

Well she's not going to get a patton the back

Was the tank going backwards?

No. The turret is facing the rear of the tank, standard transit configuration.

Just had another look at the photo, you can see that the gun barrel is in its transit clamp. Or whatever the army call it.

Very technical, do you mean thick string? :-)

I suppose I assumed the driver was in the turret and turned with the gun, sticking his head out of the hatch for a better view when safe.
What a lot of basic military stuff one is ignorant of. We never did tanks or periscopes in the school corps, just WW1 rifles and imitation hand grenades.

Did she say tanks very much?

The driver was 18 but there is no report of her being accompanied in the car. Learners are not allowed to drive on their own.
There are no markings on the car to indicate the driver is under any kind of instruction.

I suspect the BBC have translated inexperienced as learner.

The street name wasn't a big enough clue to her: Panzerringstrasse
