£2008 on tyres during 63 years of motoring? Having a laugh are they?
I spent close on 25% of that for the last set on the Soarer.
Under 6 grand to service 63 years of motoring. eff off.

Possible I get av 30k from my boots, at 60 quid fitted per corner.
63 years at 10k miles pa = 630k miles / 30k = 21 x 60 quid is £1260

At roughly a 100 quid per year, Only if you do it yourself that one I think.

I don't get 30k. I have put 6 tyres on the lancer in 120k, total 360 quid. 630k / 120k = just over 5, x 360 = £1890
still doable for mr aver age

80,000 miles per set? Either your mileage is very high or the rubber must be long knackered by the time the tread is worn down.
Either way, I cannot imagine that mileage per set of tyres is either average or typical for most people.

They go on in twos, onto the front as new, wear down to 3mm and then go on the back.
The car has done 120k in 8 years. 100k of that in the last 5 years. So rubber age is not a factor, wear on the backs is about 1 mm per 20k miles, a new set on the back would easily do 100k, they get chucked before they wear out because the fronts are ready to go on the back before then
In my co car days I would get 25-30k from fronts and 60k from backs.

Much cheaper than wives though, cars. And you can get a new one more or less whenever and as often as you want if you choose to. Or just have several. All in all its not a bad deal.

At coming up for 1.5M miles of driving, I shudder to think how much I've spent of my money ( and indeed other people's) I've spent so far on fuel alone. At a wild and highly inaccurate guess it's definitely over £100,000 and might be approaching £150,000.

Guardian "Corrections and Clarifications" recently had this little gem:
An unwanted hyphen, introduced during the editing process, had us claiming in our print edition that the Villa Valmarana ai Nani in Vicenza, Italy, was “named for the 17-stone ‘nani’, or dwarfs, that surround the home†(Rail link would destroy historic architectural gem, 9 January, page 27). To clarify: there are 17 dwarf statues surrounding the villa, they are made of stone, and we’re not sure how much they weigh.
