I've always found the Shuttle to be considerably more costly than the ferry. More so with a caravan. As a half hour crossing there's no need for onboard facilities and all you can do is sit in the car.

From here to Dover is the best part of three hours. By that time we need a break and the time on the ferry with an opportunity to eat walk around on deck etc is welcome. When the kids were young we had a well settled arrangement where we left home late morning, got an afternoon crossing to Calais then stayed there overnight before early brekkie and hitting the road at 07:00.

The shuttle would not have added anything meaningful.

Bit more time to spare back inbound from le continent but the time saving over the ferry, allowing that the ferry is preparation for the last three hours to home with food/drink etc it's not worth £££ extra for the shuttle that way either.

It was though good for a day trip from CAMC Black Horse Farm (or even on the odd occasion from home) or a long weekend on a Shuttle excursion ticket.
